Topic: Getting another addicted to the world of SOHC 750 and other bikes

As work load increases I am trying to get another guy (my daughters old boyfriend for 5 years) interested in the 750 world. My hope is to have him pulling parts and get him big time addicted and then get a set of wheels under him. Like a mentor. Yes. With the increased volume of him pulling parts, my self posting them, and my daughter shipping them it will be easy to beat all of my past sales records. I am just trying to work out a percetage for him. I was think 25% of ticket sales of the parts he pulls. Right now he has nothing. I know, not stable but it will be good for both of us. I did tell him that I could get a bike under him pretty easy as a bonus.

Officially it is called Anubis Cycle - we are selling under the eBay name needful_x_things. We are getting there slowly but surely. I have been working on the website for a bit, but I have too many other projects. Plus I have to finish the shopping cart and inventory part of the site first. We should have our domain atleast parked this week. My web dude was supposed to park the domain 3 weeks ago.

While it is nice to allow others to open their minds to things that you enjoy, you are getting one hooked to a bad addiction. You can watch it start from the casual looking in the bikes for sale scetion of the local papers, to some web surfing, to getting the first parts bike, to the second parts-parts bike. Next the three bike deal, and then the parts lot "that was too good to say no" to skipping meals and family events to make the 10 hour trip to look a a "sweetheart deal".
Yeah you got another worm in the brain turning.
And as the addicts here will say "Misery loves company"!

And when you can't find that freshly machined K2 head, or that nice fender is missing....well you know the drill.

When you describe it so accurately, I know why my first one was bought on a street corner. That's no joke.

It appears this guy has gone bum on me.

I called him yesterday to tell him just how much he was going to be making and all that, I told him I wanted him to start today. He gave me some mumbo jumbo about a friend that had come out from Germany to visit for two weeks so he was just going to "hang" with him.    WTF! I was planning a huge parts pull day. Like $600 of parts! This would not even scratch what I have sitting in the two storage units.

Go figure..... 

Let me write out the scenario for you.

You know nothing about bikes, just that you think they are sweet and look like fun. You have no job, and no income... You just hang out and eat the days away doing nothing with other guys who are doing nothing. Your parents are kicking your ass because you have no job and you for no reason have suddenly decided to not continue with school even though you have the money for it, which you scabbed up at your graduation party.

A guy that has more motorcycles and motorcycle stuff than he knows what to do with offers you 30% of gross sales (which right now is about $3500 gross sales monthly) plus a running bike as a bonus to pull parts to sell. Plus is willing to mentor you and show you just how to get your own scores. A chance to learn from a master. Gross sales will increase which will fill both his and your coffers fast.

Might I ad I have a tendency to buy lunch for people who work for me.

Too bad you are a little to far away-I'd take that deal. And I know how to strip a bike. We sold the place in Big Flats,so I'm not up that way as much as I used to be.

Ahhh, a very common outlook from more than one of today's generation. The young guys we hire at work now need two degrees to get hired ( none of us old guys could ever stand a chance of getting our jobs today) feel that since they got their education, the world owes them a living. And I will generalize in that they are not that smart. Us old guard pull stuff on them all the time and sometimes its weeks before they realize they've been had. No drive, ambition, energy - sorry to be so stereotypical, but of 12 or so, plus the group that my 23 year old hangs with, that description would cover 90%. The other 10% are great and keen.

Sad but true 

This was a hard decision to make for me because I hate sharing the $$$! Good thing it did not cost me any cash to find out.  I guess I will work solo and greedy.

Dang.I would Take you up on that Offer if I was a Little Closer.Heck I'd Probably went for 25% if you'd came up with the right Bike for me to ride.  At 30% thats Pretty much $900 More than I'm making a Month.

Cripes!!! I was gonna set him up with my nice 80' CX 500 (soon to be cafe elmonster). Just sickening... Needs the carbs tickled a bit and needs a front master.. Otherwise a bad ass in the twisties.

Well after showing his cards, you really do not want to take him under your wing. Sounds like it will assuredly lead to a run in down the road. So better to get the parting down up front rather than a few months or a year from now.

Placed an add on www.postaroo.com . Let's see how it goes. Donig the end of year thing and logging all of the VIN#'s today I have 20 bikes total including the one rider I officially have (in motor swap). My wife was running through it all with me. You know the just how will I interview someone? How much trust will I give them? I can tell you I will never put an employee in a position in which they could hurt me in anyway. Not that most guys would but I don't want that responsibility (or fury) to fall on anyone.
