Alternate part available??????
« on: December 16, 2009, 02:45:27 PM »
I'm a newbie who is having sticker shock...be gentle..please

I am rebuilding my 1974 cb350F-1 engine. Well I'm ordering parts which is the same thing...right? Anyway all of the hardware from the clyinder head cover and cylinder head are missing. So I go to an OEM parts house and find that the washers in the clylinder head that go under the capnuts that screw to the case studs are between 3 and 4 USD apiece. The description is 8mm washer, seal and 12 are required......50 bucks for 12 washers...come on...not really :o

Got to be another way here..all the rest is priced accordingly...meaning its 10X too expensive but 100X is just rediculous.

Help!

I'm not familiar with your bike but a straight washer - even stainless would be a few cents. If the washer is also a seal, how about a small crush washer - NAPA.

Gnat, washers are copper, and thicker than typical "sealing" washers as they need to withstand the torque of head bolts. I'll check my stock at work tommorow as I only have  3  here.  If I have enough, and you''ll PM me an addess, theyre' yours. G

There is some hardware that is "Special"to Hondabikes and dfficult to get elswhere, like the fibre washers under the screw heads that hold the petcock on and your head nut washers, unfortunately if you need new, unless you are willing to pay for a few 1,000 production run, you are normaly stuck with Honda prices
