Politics only thread? Heck lets throw religion in there too...
« on: December 17, 2009, 06:54:47 AM »
Now i'm not going to debate politics with anyone...or religion or any of that crap. If I ever debate that stuff it's in person and it's a fun "debate" not a full blown personal attack or argument.

What i'm wondering is if we can have just ONE thread where politics is discussed, instead of almost every freaken thread in the Open Forum getting infected with political issues. It never goes anywhere and it ruins otherwise fun threads. That way instead of ruining things people can just vent here about politics and all that crap.

No one is going to suddenly say "Oh wait, i'm wrong in what I believe...i guess i'll start belonging to (blank) political party" and the same goes for religion.

So I know this thread will probably go no where, but I guess I'm just venting about it is all lol. I'm NOT directing this at any one person...or even any two people. It's just a trend that happens often enough that i'm not the only one getting annoyed by it.

So whether you feel the same about this, or want to disagree go right ahead...but do it in THIS thread lol.

If anyone wants to know i'm a liberal republican who values certain facets of socialism, supports abortion, gay marriage, and guns in every household...oh and chocolate eclair for every new baby. (All of that is a joke before anyone gets all riled up)

I ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH YOU!!!

I'm sick and tired of posts about non-political issues containing jabs, digs and stupid comments.  It is childish and obnoxious.  There are a million and one places on the internet for such discussions, and they don't belong in posts about motorcycles.  I like riding motorcycles because I get to think about riding and physics and speed instead of all the problems of the world that I deal with on a day-to-day basis.  It is the one thing I like to do above all else, save play with my children.  The insidious little digs and petty comments make the whole experience of researching bikes here downright unpleasant sometimes.

I often feel self-conscious for frequently posting political diatribes on the board, but those of you with a more discriminating eye will note that I rarely, if ever, start the political discussion.  I feel like I see these little digs everywhere these days, and I feel obligated to shed some light on the subjects as they arise.

Colin,

It took a while, but I eventually developed an immunity to political argument threads or other non-political threads that get derailed into political arguments.  When that happens I just move along to another thread, because there are always plenty of other active topics.  Hopefully you'll get to that point, too, because it really does make this place a lot more enjoyable.

As for the members who always seem to be the ones who either start the pointless bickering, or take the tiniest hint of a possibility of a political jab as an invitation to start the bickering and never let go, that's what the "ignore" function is for, and it works very well.  POOF!  That person is gone.  I don't use that function much, but I can tell you there is at least one person whose existence I don't miss one bit, and I am absolutely no worse off for never reading another word they type on this forum.

As for having a dedicated thread/sub-forum for political and religious bickering, unfortunately I don't think it would work.  The ones who derail the threads like that get pleasure from doing so, so it wouldn't be any fun for them to have to go to a specific thread to do it.

I don't think it's possible Colin.  I'd bet even in Heaven the discussions evolve into politics and religion.  That's why Satan got kicked out - he was a Libertarian.

That type of thread is available all over the net, I don't think the BS it brings to a group is a good thing.

Well this was more of a rant than anything. I don't want a politics or religion sub forum...and I know this thread won't be serious. But I figured if people wanted to do serious political or religious venting they might as well in this one without ruining other threads that have good content. I'm sick of searching for stuff and having to sift through pages in a thread that are about not painting a bike red because it's communist when all I want to know is what brackets the guy removed before painting that the bike won't need...so I can do the same thing on my build lol.

Obviously not self conscious enough. ;D  Someone posts an innocuous comment about having a picture of Che  on an "herb" grinder or on the side of his bike and you go all bat sh_t crazy practically accusing them of being the second coming of Joseph Stalin. ;D

I'm a fan of both...apple pie with sharp cheese has gotta be my favorite dessert though...mmm

I got a hood hearty handshake for whoever knows what song that chocolate eclair line is from...or if you can just name the band that works too ;)

EDIT: It's slightly reworded from the song to be fair to those trying to guess...

When the BABE thread gets corrupted with religion and politics....i'm outta here! ;D
But, if they incorporate chocolate pie over there....all the better!

This was not meant to offend anyone associated with eclairs and apple pies or anyone liking any other kind of pastery, desserts, or cheese....or those not liking HOT BABES on, wearing, or around said sweets and cheeses....for that matter  :P

Cake is good as long as it is wrapped around a rich creamy filling and is a delicious yellow color on the outside.

But mostly I like ice cream.

Sometimes I just like a frosty from Wendy's, chocolate, not that weak vanilla crap.

Except when I can get Crème brûlée, if it is crusted properly.

Mark, does it make a difference if the crust of the brûlée is frictionless or not? And whos fault is it if it isn't, the democrats or the republicans? And who's more likely to pull the race card, the ice cream or the cake?
No.

Yes.

The frictionless stuff is synthetic, lacks zinc for a healthy scalp.

We are not at the fault designation point of this project, that will come after agreement on the identification of weakness.

Its the damn ice cream, too many flavors, someone always mixing them up regardless of community standards & tradition.

So... is the political thread going non-political then?   ;D

Awesome if it does!

This may just be where we come to avoid the politics!

Yeah, Chocolate Pie IS GOOD, but I really miss the Lemon Meringue pies that my Mom used to make. Most of them nowdays, have way too much meringue (spelling?) on them and not enough lemon. ::) :D ;)
