Topic: Progressive /Ikon fork springs for 75 CB550K...shocks as well?

Anyone got info on progressive fork springs for my 75 CB550?

Ikon is pretty "ehh it works ok".

The Ikon application chart states CB550F/K 76 through 78.
Is that the same as my 75? (I am not terribly familiar with year to year compatibility)

Ikon has a decent looking set but once again..."ehh, it works ok.

The Ikons I bought for the 750 are the dean's peanuts, splurged for the aluminum body ones.
They cost more than the Progressives but the Ikons are REBUILDABLE, progressives are not.

Progressive shocks aren't rebuildable because they seem to last forever. At least for me they do.

The fork springs are pretty much the same... Night and day differences on pretty much every bike with stock internals.


Send me a final price for your Ikon's front and back and I'll see what I can do.

Love my Ikons. The only other thing you could get that would be better is Works Suspension, and I'm not even sure about that.

Havoc...The Progressive front springs will be more than satisfactory for a dinky 550....do you have them in stock.(Thanks for that Spikeybike)

( I have a set in my thruxton that are up to the task with a set of piggyback ohlins but I dont want to overkill on a little CB ).

From what I have heard Redwings are more plush touring-type shocks, more on the soft side.

I run 15 in the triumph but it is a heavy pig.

I put progressive springs (1106) in the forks with 10wt oil and 13" progressive shocks (sprung for my wt) in rear on my 71'CB500. The difference was literally night and day. The forks actually respond to bumps and give much better feedback than the soft stockers. You can really feel the difference in compliance and steering accuracy. The rear shocks work okay also but are not in the same league as works performance or ohlins (but less than 1/2 the price!). The Ikon's could be better especially if they're adjustable for rebound and/or compression. The 1/2" longer rear shocks do speed up the handling which is nice as the bike is a little slow steering in stock form. If I was to do it again I'd bounce for the Ikon's or better for the rear. I'm trying the "Mike's XS" adjustable damper in a 550 and am curious as to how that will react.

I am waiting for a reply from yss still on the Eco.

I do want above average suspension as I do ride pretty aggressive sometimes & after spending time on setting up the suspension on the thruxton, a little investment can't hurt.
(I absolutely admit the ohlins were an overkill....#$%*en...but serious overkill).

After I finish setting that up a steering damper is next....one thing at a time.

Sadly I do not have IKON as a supplier. I wish though.

I just got a response from them and the price is absolutly reasonable. (I have seen yss in person and the quality is nice....plus the look I am going for.

15wt is too heavy in my opinion...

I have seen plenty of guys racing post classic in Australia using Koni or Ikon shocks, i have used them for over 30 years and when set up properly are excellent shocks, i used to ride the wheels off mine and never had any problems at all and they are rebuildable. I also had Koni suspension on my Aussie muscle cars, rebuildable also..

Oh dont get me wrong..they worked & did not fail.
I have had more issues with Bitubos than any ikon products.....just havent been stellar.

I am going to try something different this bike so I popped for the Yss's
they are on the way.

I have never tried Icon but have had many Koni shocks on my bikes/cars. From my experience (400F, R80/7, CB900F, many CB750Ks, and a few cars ) Koni shocks always had too much high speed compression damping, and benefited significantly from a re-valve. Having said that, at least it is possible to re-valve them, and given what else was available at the time they were one of the best options. Early Ohlins (1982) were not very impressive either, suffering from the same problem as Koni. I have Konis now on two of my CB750s and I will be re-valving both pairs.

I am fairly light so maybe that helps {145-147 pounds}  i never had problems with the damping. The only time i ever had any trouble was running out of clearance in corners and lifting the rear wheel, i can tell you, that was never fun and called for the odd change of underwear...   Have you tried the newer alloy bodied Ikons?, i am thinking of putting these on one of my 4's and haven't been able to find any reviews. I am getting a bit old to ride like i used too but still like to have quality suspension.
