Road America - Lets Go

Road America Expands Vintage Motorcycle Weekend

Elkhart Lake, Wis., December 7, 2009--Road America is adding new event features to its annual vintage motorcycle weekend. The Road America Vintage Motorcycle Classic, June 11-13, 2010, will mark the return of the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) with the addition of motocross and cross country and trials on courses built specifically for vintage racing. "Road America is acknowledged as a world-class road racing facility. When we discovered that the property had hundreds of acres of prime off-road terrain, we were pleased to add AHRMA National Off-Road events to the traditional schedule of road racing," said AHRMA Executive Director David Lamberth. Road America has a large motorcycle racing fan base and always encourages vintage motorsports enthusiasm. Track president George Bruggenthies is pleased with the expanded event, "The world of vintage motorcycling is a vibrant, diverse family that includes, collectors, restorers and enthusiasts who just love to ride old bikes, as well as racers. We're throwing a family reunion," he stated.

Other race-weekend features are being added through a partnership with longtime motorcycle events producer Will Stoner. Stoner is coordinating a swap meet, club corrals and a moving bike show. "I'm excited to have the opportunity to do a swap meet and bike show in such a fantastic location. The swap meet area is one of the best I've seen, the roads are fantastic and Wisconsin hospitality is great," Stoner said. The swap meet is open to all brands of motorcycles, but is limited to bikes, parts, memorabilia and tools. The on-site bike show will include judging with awards presented in 13 classes and a leisurely 40-mile ride through the scenic Wisconsin countryside. Club Corrals will be open to all vintage motorcycle clubs and organizations wishing to have a corral spot on Club Row. The spaces will be free to any club that registers by June 2, 2010. Clubs will be able to park their bikes, sell memberships and club regalia, as well as have a picnic for club members. Participants only need to purchase an advance event ticket to use the Club Corrals.

Participant information for the swap meet, bike show and club corral is available by contacting Will Stoner: 440-591-5099, willstoner@classicswapmeets.com. Other event details will be posted as they become available, at www.roadamerica.com.

Road America is a 640-acre, year-round motorsports facility entering its 55th race season. In addition to major race events, Road America offers motorcycle and supermoto schools, corporate ATV and karting programs, and top-of-the-line hospitality. Season Passes, which include the event listed above, are $370 through Feb. 15, 2010. For up-to-date event information visit www.roadamerica.com or call 800/365-7223.  -END

A friend and I are making plans on attending.  Maybe if enough show an interest SOHC/4 could have a club corral.

OK. Lets make it a SOHC deal. Some of us could ride there together, Like the Hot Rod power tour. My drag race schedule isn't out yet but that weekend was open this year.

I am going to try my hardest to make it there. Road America is by far my favorite track i have ever been to. I've only been there once, and i was about 14 at the time. That place is enormous! I love mid ohio, but it doesn't even compare to road america.

We are making efforts to bring the Sandcast Owners club in, along with CBX Club...just like this year at Mid Ohio. Let's make this event work!

I have never been there for a bike show. Does anyone know are the show bikes parked inside a building out of the weather with night security? I may bring my KO & K1 to the show. Not a very long drive for me. I am looking forward to it.

This is my backyard..........I have offered Will Stoner to assist with the ride and whatever.  Much more info will be available in a few weeks.  KOS......yes, I have sent the same message to Tom Swan.  Club Corrals are free to registered clubs.  Who will register for SOHC/4?  Last year tickets were $25 per day or $50 for 3 days + camping fees.  Advance tickets to a club are sometimes offered at a 10% discount.  Should I inquire?

I have 30 acres of field and forest for anyone that wants to camp off-site.  Local hotels run from under $100 to highend resort fees. I also have a friend with 10 acres of land just 2 miles from the track.  I'll ask about camping.  He as a building with a toilet.  If camping is included with the swap-meet fees, several spots will have extra space because they live locally.

I will inquire if there will be a cafe class for the show.  Johnie........I anticipate a large canopy tent.  Yes, Road America has security. Plus, some of us can usually get permission to park small campers or vans near the show-barn and provide additional security.  We have been doing this at Mid-Ohio for years.

Again, much more info will be available in a few weeks.  I agree with all of you that this could be a great event to meet and greet as well as show off to the public.

I'm so excited!! Mostly because, knowing the track and surrounding area, this venue has some serious potential to become one of the best events around!

I've been to the big vintage car races there and it would be awesome to have a motorcycle equivalent.

Dennis, thanks for taking point.  I plan on being there on my "new to me" 1976 CB 750 running in the Superbike Heavyweight class.  I'll be seriously outgunned but I'm going to have fun anyway.

This has the potential to be awesome.

I posted the message on this page because it gets the most notice.  I know you will be busy with racing.  I will also have space in the swap-meet.  If you have a few things you want to sell..........?

This is getting interesting.  March has Bike Week with AHRMA & vintage races in Daytona followed by AMA races.  June now has a week of AMA races at Road America followed by AHRMA. The Harley people have a Roar on the Shore party in nearby Sheboygan on the same AHRMA weekend. Its a beach party with live music.  We also have two 1/3-mile flat-track venues and a whole lot of scenic and curvy roads.  Mid-Ohio is no longer an AHRMA event. If we get our act together, this could be fun.  I have already notified several other clubs.  My idea for a successful event is to have as many of the brand or model affinity groups show up with their bikes.  This includes ALL brands.

For now.......MERRY CHRISTMAS!  We know it will be a Happy New Year!

MOTORCYCLE CLASSICS Magazine will be at RA Vinage Festival.........

Hi Dennis

We’ll be there! We’ve already talked with Will and everything’s in motion for us to sponsor the Ride and Show at Road America. I’m very stoked about it. Should be a great show, it’s an awesome venue, as you obviously know. And as you’re working with Will on the ride portion, it’s great that you contacted me. As we move along, let me know what you can about the route you’re planning. We’re obviously pretty keen to pump this show, which we’ll be doing in the magazine and have already started doing through our e-newsletters and on the web.

Regards,

Richard

BTW........Ticket prices are posted on the RA web-site at $20 per day for preregistration along with other packages.

Just talked with Will Stoner today..........each PRE-REGISTERED swapmeet space will be $75 and includes weekend passes for two and camping privaleges in your space.  Site layout is dependent on the number of vendors.  Plans are to open on Friday AM and stay until 1:PM on Sunday. If we get more vendors then planned, we will consider opening on Thursday. His web-site will have the sign-up info in a day or two.

The CLUB spaces are currently planned to be located around the swap meet.  Road America has posted ticket prices at $20 per day for Pre-regestered riders; otherwise $35 at the gate. Camping is extra.

MOTORCYCLE CLASSICS will host the 'Ride em Don't Hide em' bike show with an entrance fee of $25. That includes a 1-year magazine subscription,  a T-Shirt, and maybe a nice trophy with pics in the mag.

Who has the club banners and will help to set up the SOHC/4 Club Space?  I can arrange for a 10 x 20 canopy. Others?

Guys,

Steve Swan of Sandcast Owners Only Club (S.O.O.C) club and I have made our pitch to get us there, but of course, we are meeting with the standard AHRMA corprorate speak...not enough money to bring in the featured speakers. But we will see.

If we fail, will will just bring in Big Bob and let him talk about his winning AHRMA Daytona on this, the 40th year aniversery of Dick Mann's win at Daytona (first for any Japanese company)

And, just think...Ducati never has won the 200!

KOS and others.........I have planted a few seeds among the potential clubs to be at this event.  I have hopes that one or more 'experts' would provide demonstrations or 'how-to' talks in the club areas.  Would someone from the SOHC/4 be interested? .........all-balls roller-bearing conversion.......LED lights............mounting rear-sets........discerning cam grinds..............

Don't count on me to do anything but race my motorcycle and drink beer.

But I talk pretty much non stop anyway.  And if you keep handing me beers the stories get more interesting if perhaps somewhat distant from actual events.

And I tend to swear a lot.  Sensitive types avert your ears.
