Just found out I have a wedding to go to on sunday so it looks like I'll be there saturday only.

Update.......I met with Will Stoner at Road America today.  Will tells me that no one from SOHC/4 has contacted him about a club space at Road America for June 11-13.  I looked at the potential club spaces with Will and each space will be 30 feet wide by 60 or more feet in depth.  If more space is required he needs to know.  The space is free as long as someone buys an advance ticket for the weekend to man the space.  Also, it will only cost $15 for anyone that plans to camp in the club space, maybe for security reasons.  No shelters are provided.  I may be able to arrange for one or two canopies.  I am already involved with the VJMC club space and the MOTORCYCLE CLASSICS magazine show and ride...........so who want's to step forward for the SOHC/4?

I live a few minutes from Road America so could provide an overnight or two.

Other clubs so far.......VJMC & BMW Airheads.........several others in limbo..........

Damn.  If I'd known he was meeting up with you I might've taken a few "I'm sick of you people" days off and headed up there with him.  Will stayed in our guest room Sunday night.

We've got a lot of people from The Chicago Vintage Motorcyclists geared up to do this thing.  Who knows, some of our compatriots from Milwaukee might manage to escape the city limits for a few days.  Crazy but it could happen.

Big Bob,(re your post o page 1) it will be %&^ing OK hanging around with Dennis (Old Scrambler). I put that sitiuation to the test in September...

 Wish I could go, riding my green 750 like Dennis.. I would not mind seeing a roadrace, been to Miller 2wice, anf had to miss the racing both times..

Ive got this on my calander I might be there on a big Yamaha but it is a vintage4 and
in one way or another this seems like a must see/be there event.

Johnie......the MOTORCYCLE CLASSICS bike ride and show will be under a small wood-frame pavillian on pavement located at the rear of the pit-area.  One enclosed trailer and a security guard will be posted nearby. If we attract enough bikes, additional canopies with side enclosures could be added.  Also, there is the possibility that the show could be held in the new pit-garages now under construction.

If you want to display your K0 at the VJMC area, I will have a canopy with sides and will be 'camped' next to it.  If the SOHC/4 group can get two or more responsible people to take turns watching the bikes, I could supply another canopy.  This will be on sod with asphalt driveways. No promises, but I am also trying to get another large enclosed trailer to park in the club area for more security and overnight sleeping. 

I would not be overly concerned about security at Road America.  No spectators will be milling around after dark in this area of the facility.

That would make me kinda want to go on the ride then.... but I still don't like the idea of paying to get in and then leaving for a while to go on a ride. But then again, when will I have the chance to ride with a (hopefully) big group of neat old bikes?Decisions decisions.

I would consider manning sohc club space if I wasn't only going to be there one day (maybe friday too), but for now I want to make the most of the time I will have there.

I mentioned on the Motorcycle Classics forums that I will have my 350 at the event and Richard Backus said they might be interested in taking pictures of it for the magazine!

More info for newbies to AHRMA.............Friday is setup and practice.........Sat & Sun mornings are more practice. Break at Noon to 1:PM.........racing on schedule in the PM.  Usually finished about 4:PM or so.  Repeat of Sat on Sun.

The club spaces are open to holding their own events such as a bike show, demonstrations, travel or how-to talks, and sign up new members. Minor fees may be charged to cover the cost of trophies. 

Manufacturers are invited to offer demo rides. The swap-meet will be open most of Friday and all of Saturday and Sunday. Sorry.......no flat-track racing this year......BUT.......Saturday evening has 1/3-mile stock car racing in Plymouth.......only 4 miles from R.A.  There are a wide variety of other things to do in the area.  Elkhart Lake has world-class resorts, fishing, and great roads for just riding on your own.  For those that like big water, Lake Michigan is only 15 miles away.........and if you like golf.........an early morning or evening round at Whistling Straights, Black Wolf Run, The Bull, or several other courses can be arranged.  If you have a family that doen't want to hang out at the race track on every day........the Blue Harbor Resort in Sheboygan is on the beach and offers an indoor water park.

The AMA roadraces are held at R.A. on the previous weekend.  A few people are known to book the campground for the entire week and get to enjoy the many things to do around Elkhart Lake and the general Sheboygan County area of Wisconsin. Oh....I almost forgot.........The HD crowd has a party in Sheboygan on the beach all weekend with live music.

Thanks Dennis...yes, I was thinking about bringing the KO for display and the classics ride. My concern was some kind of cover in case of a hail storm or bad weather. Security is a big plus. Are we getting a special rate if we all register under the SOHC-4 members? Can we pre-register?

3-day pass is $40 versus $75...........Saturday and/or Sunday is $20 versus $30 for each day.

I have six swap spots in one block for myself and a few friends.........I will have 2 or more overnight permits to spare as some of the locals plan to go home to their pre-warmed beds! If you want to join my group either send the $75 to me or directly to will stoner.....download the form from his web site.......and flag the entry to be next to my block of spots.

There will be plenty of parking for trucks and trailers near the pits.  If anyone can bring additional canopies and/or has an RV with a canopy, I will find you a useful place to park.

Access to the pit area will be open to all ticket holders. There is over 4-miles of paved roadway to ride around the grounds to the numerous viewing places along the racetrack.  Two or more of the food stands will be open - including breakfast.  Evening entertainment will include a trip to the outdoor beach bar in Elkhart Lake and if I can get some power to my canopy, I will have a movies of the 1970 Daytona and a 1966 factory tour of HMC....Thanks Lord Moonpie!

I'll be heading up in the big Dodge van.  Bringing my race bike (put the head on the engine yesterday), The World's Ugliest Sandcast as a pit bike, wife's XL 125, etc.  I'm sure you'll be able to find someone to ride with.  Feel free to drop off lawn chairs, cooler, tent etc. at my place for hauling.

Your brake rotors are on the shelf closest to the garage door, third from bottom.  Come by Monday and we'll bolt them up.

I grew up in Sheboygan County, WI, where RA is at. My family is still there. Went to a couple Indy car races, one vintage car weekend, and one superbike race there. It is a sweet spot. They used to even host a road bicycle race there, something like 15 laps around- a pretty sick spot for a bicycle too.

I would love to be there! But, I live in Montana now, and that's a hellava drive from here for a weekend. I'll likely have a second daughter that will be about 2 weeks old at that time, so I think I'll have to pass. I'm going to be there one of these years!

Road America, in picturesque Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin is adding new event features to its annual vintage motorcycle weekend. The Road America Vintage Motorcycle Classic, June 11-13, 2010, will mark the return of the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) with the addition of motocross and cross country and trials on courses built specifically for vintage racing. “Road America is acknowledged as a world-class road racing facility. Other race-weekend features include a swap meet, club corrals and a moving bike show.


The swap meet is open to all brands of motorcycles, but is limited to bikes, parts, literature and memorabilia. 20’ X 20’ spaces are $75 and include 2 weekend passes. The bike show presented by Motorcycle Classics magazine features a 40 mile ride for show participants followed by judging.

Oh yeah. I'm sure i'll be walking around hunched over with permanently bent knees Friday night. Hopefully some new bars will make the trip a little nicer. I've ridden it about 4 hours before, and besides a numb butt and achy knees it wasn't all that bad.

Can't ride a nighthawk to a vintage show when you've got a super cool 350F.
