Eastern Pennsylvania
« on: March 29, 2005, 06:21:04 AM »
Greetings to the Eastern PA and area members.

I'm located in Lititz, PA.  I own 3 SOHC4 bikes - 1978 CB550K, 1977 CB550K, and 1975 CB750K.  A 1979 Yamaha RD400 keeps them company in the garage.  Looking forward to a good summer riding season.

So I see that there is more than one rider here with a Yamaha smoker keeping their Hondas company.

'73 Yamaha RD350 (first year for the RD all stock original unrestored) running
'75 CB750F Supersport all original and unrestored (an abandoned orphan) running
'75 Elsinore Enduro all original and unrestored needs carb work - I'll get to it
'72 CB500, needs work, top end off, due to stuck engine
A couple of other '72 CB500's for parts or possible restoration
'84 Yamaha RZ350, recent purchase, needs a few things
'69 Yamaha R3, needs cleanup and assembly it's a 350cc 2 cylinder 2 stroke for anyone who wanted to know!
The RD, "750" Elsinore and RZ are insured and registered.

Anyway, glad to see I'm not the only one!!
I'm in central NJ, a little too far from you to go for a ride. When I saw eastern PA I thought maybe close to the Delaware River until I saw the town.

Shamokin - I've been through there a lot!  I have some family obligations that have taken me away from riding at the moment (namely my 2 week old daughter), but I'm looking forward to making that ride again soon.

About 5 or 6 years ago, I led an SOHC/4 ride that ended in Shamokin.  The riders from Maryland and Delaware had a blast riding to that  point, but got sour faces once they checked the map and realized realized how far north we'd gone and how long a ride it was back to home.  The ride ended a bit early that day - they hit the highway and I rode over through Centralia and Ashland to find 61 to get home to Kennett Square where I lived at the time.  They might have been sore then next day, but I'll bet it was a long time before they'd had a ride as nice as the one up 125!  Coal country has some great rides, but 125 is hard to beat.

These wonderful little birds are great flyers, delicious eating, excellent for training your hunting dog, and just fun to shoot,or stuff and keep around the house.  Bobwhites can be put with other types of Quail and have very large penis's.  Quail are very popular with the babes.

Hey!

As a new member, I want to resurrect the Eastern PA thread. I am near Allentown, actually closer to Emmaus and Coopersburg. I would like to know about regional activities. May help give me some target dates for getting my 1970 CB750 in riding condition. Someone mentioned an affair near Carlisle? Please keep posting to keep the thread alive!

There is a VJMC flea market and bike show at the Red Rose Motorcycle Club facilities in Jefferson, PA (southern York County), August 19-21.  I've been there in the past and it has always been a worthwhile event.

there's two of us in philly that ride together pretty regularly, i'm on a 550, my buddy's on a 500.  i just returned from a 4 day ride through chambersburg, up north to wellsboro, over to delaware water gap, then back down to philly.  looking to do the same in spring of '06, but this time camping, and with a few more runs on rt 144 north of easton.  that is by far the most fun i've had on two wheels.

Love to join you sometime. On a 1970 750 K0 in Center Valley, between Quakertown and Allentown. Hoping to spark some interest in local, regular get togethers, especially in spring 2006. Keep posting!

I just read Ewan Macgregor's book Long Way Around. Did spark some interest in camping. I don't know if anyone else in the membership has good or bad experience to share. Maybe a post for the open forum. I certainly would be interested, in  the summer!

nah, who would mess with a bunch of guys who've got the balls to ride antiques 1000 miles a weekend?  i think we'd be ok... :-\
first i have to tear my baby's motor down to the cylinder gasket and replace all the seals from there on up.  got a motor off ebay for $60 so i don't have to practice on my bike... maybe it'll end up being a perfectly workable spare ;D

We used to have several east coast rides every year that centered around SE PA and Northern Maryland.  On one of the last rides, we camped near the Catochtin Mountains of Maryland and found some great roads in that part of Maryland/West Virginia.

I camp a lot - until my daughter was born earlier this year, it was always our (wife & I) preference to camp on our trips around the country.  Though I haven't done it as often, motorcycle camping is great fun.  If enough of us get together for a ride and plan it a bit in advance, we could book a group site at any  number of the State Parks in PA or even one of the wall tents or cabins which they have at several of the parks.

I'd like to do a trip up to Sullivan County or out past Adams County.  Some great low-traffic roads in those areas and enough parks with camping to do a two-night trip.  Close enough for people who don't want to camp to join up for the day as well.

Keep in touch and we'll get some rides planned for '06.

Hey Guys,

It's nice to see guys who ride the old bikes instead of just looking at them in their basements.

I'm from Nova Scotia, CANADA and I was thinking about heading to PA, VT, NH, ME for a ride next year.  MY old 72 is pretty reliable, I just got to remember to check the oil evey 500 miles.

I was through PA last summer on my Honda Shadow but I didn't have time to explore since I was returning from a 2 week trip down south.  It was really scenic and I decided that I must return.

I'm about to put away my bike for the season so now I can dream about next year's season.

hi
yeah, pa is fun, the best roads i have found so far were in the mountainous regions in the middle of the state.  look for roads with few (if any) towns and you will have a blast.

 ???

I am new to riding in the area, although I do live here. Can some of you post some of your routes for easy 1/2 day or full day trips? I know some of the fun is just wandering around, but I would hate to wander around, say, Mechanicsburg, and miss a good stretch of road or a nice view. Jim Thorpe looks like it would have some spectacular routes!

Thanks!
