great motorcycle songs
« on: December 19, 2009, 11:54:39 PM »
i got a book of jethro tull tablature today and i'd never really payed alot of attention to the lyrics of this song but as i'm reading them, i thought, this is the best motorcycle song ever...check out 'chequered flag dead or alive" lyrics if you get a chance. hope i dont get into trouble for posting this tab.

CAPO 3

INTRO G C G
     G            D/F#
The disc brakes drag, the chequered flag
C   Bb   Am           Em
  sweeps across the oil-slick track.
G                   D/F#
The young man's home; dry as a bone.
C      Bb      Am          Em
His helmet off, he waves: the crowd waves back.
A7                     D    Bm      F#m
One lap victory roll.  Gladiator soul.
                  B7             C
The taker of the day in winning has to say,
G           Bm       C              A7
Isn't it grand to be playing to the stand,
         D
dead or alive.
G           Bm       C              A7
Isn't it grand to be playing to the stand,
         D
dead or alive.
rest the same

The sunlight streaks through the curtain cracks,
touches the old man where he sleeps.
The nurse brings up a cup of tea ---
two biscuits and the morning paper mystery.
The hard road's end, the white god's-send
is nearer everyday, in dying the old man says,
Isn't it grand to be playing to the stand,
dead or alive.

The still-born child can't feel the rain
as the chequered flag falls once again.
The deaf composer completes his final score.
He'll never hear the sweet encore.
The chequered flag, the bull's red rag,
the lemming-hearted hordes
running ever faster to the shore singing,
Isn't it grand to be playing to the stand,
dead or alive.

Of all God's creatures there is only one that cannot be made the slave of the lash. That one is the cat. If man could be crossed with the cat it would improve man, but it would deteriorate the cat.

He also did the songs for the old (1969) Hot Wheels cartoon.
(and tons of other obscure 60's & 70's soundtracks)

"motorcycle bcthi",by skyhooks(an australian band of the mid to late seventies),goes a bit like,,,this..i know a motorcycle bchti, with a fast machine ,well she struck it rich and shes awfull mean, five forward gears and shes a water cooled, she sure looks crazy, but she sure aint fooled, she rides a bike like she rides a man!just hold on tight and dont give a damn!slip the clutch and give me full throttle, open your legs and pass out if you got to!!well she scapes both pegs, and she winds up fast ,hold on tight with your legs, this ride could be your last ,well ive never seen her brake i aint never seen her man make no mistake cause death is round the bend(she rides a bike like she rides a man etc,,,  motorbike noises ,workshop wrenching noises and tyre skidding)..i dont carry no freight,i dont carry no pillion, shes got a job she hates, and shes one in a million ,if you dont get your kicks youd better step aside, she knows all the tricks you just watch her ride(she rides a bike like she rides a man etc..)...it might be findable with peer to peer lime.?well worth the effort, not too heavy but great fast electric aussie rock, the vocalist Graeme "shirley"Strachan was killed in aug 2001 flying a light chopper.yeah 754,i like sweet hitch hiker,i picture an early 289 windsor powered 67 falcon, over here v8s werent common at the time,we never got your tough smog equipment either though.

Another one I've always liked, although not specifically about cycles but it could be, is AC/DC Ride On. Such a good groove to cruise to.  :)

cakes going the distance is pretty good all though the ultimate one is born to be wild
some lyrics from cake:
Reluctantly crouched at the starting line,
engines pumping and thumping in time.
the green light flashes, the flags go up.
churning and burning, they yearn for the cup.
they deftly maneuver and muscle for rank,
fuel burning fast on an empty tank.
reckless and wild, they pour through the turns.
their prowess is potent and secretly stern.
as they speed through the finish, the flags go down.
the fans get up and they get out of town.
the arena is empty except for one man,
still driving and striving as fast as he can.
the sun has gone down and the moon has come up,
and long ago somebody left with the cup.
but he's driving and striving and hugging the turns.
and thinking of someone for whom he still burns.

he's going the distance.
he's going for speed.
she's all alone
all alone in her time of need.
because he's racing and pacing and plotting the course,
he's fighting and biting and riding on his horse,
he's going the distance.
I've done a lot of things in my life that I'm not proud of...and the things I AM proud of, "are disgusting"
