Back in the day we knocked down bridges that looked like that by dropping sandbags on them. Never took more that two direct hits to bring them down.

Was that when you were filled with, er um, flying hot air balloons?   ;D  JK!

Helium not hot air. Quiet and stealthy. You just drift along silently drop your ballast on unsuspecting villagers and zoom straight up. Getting back down was a chore.  ;D

OK I confess. I would cross that bridge before I would do this:

Kent Couch, a 47 year old gas station owner, attached 105 colorful helium balloons to his lawn chair and took a 193 mile trip across Oregon. Using five gallon bags of water as ballast, he was able to lift off the ground and drift at speeds up to twenty-five miles per hour. After nine hours, he popped enough balloons to land. "When you're laying in the grass on a summer day, and you see the clouds, you wish you could jump on them," he said. "This is as close as you can come to jumping on them. It's just like that."

The guy is nuts. A kid with a BB gun is the least of the things that can happen. Downdrafts, updrafts and other air turbulance would have tossed his silly butt out of that chair.

I will take the bridge, and then wash out my pants on the riverbank. I have some experience in these matters.  :(

Actually Bill I think I remember the story and he did use a BB or .22 to pop Balloons to come down.

Only if my bike needed a cleaning and I needed a bath. ;D If you listened, the rider was saying how slippery it was. I couldn't see trying to go across it at 15mph with my feet on the pegs. Only reason to cross that bridge is to get to the other side. ;D ;D ;D

THAT is because you are young and invincible like I was at your age. I watch the youth on you-tube all the time pulling their stunts on skateboards, snowboards, snowmobiles, seadoos, and the like. Even on TV, there is a show called "It only hurts when I laugh" which highlights these fearless fools and their attempts at self-mutilation, incapacation, and self-destruction.  ;D

I bet you got some good stories. That would actually make a pretty good thread. Stupidest thing I ever did on 2 wheels... Mine would be reaching down and touching the road doing 120, just to see what it felt like. Then there's all those close calls... Good times! I should never ever own another crotch rocket... ;D

Still think this guy on the video is a whiner.

Yea, probably got a few and some that I am not proud of either. It is amazing how much smarts we soak up as we grow old. guess that is the point. to live and risk, yet live to learn from it. in flying we say that the difference between being a statistic and being an experience pilot is surviving your stupidity.

Yeah, even from 18-26, there has been a whole lot of growing up. Still think I am a good 75% stupid still, so got a lot of work left to do!!! My daughter has forced me to quit being a big kid myself, to a point. At least now I have a reason to watch cartoons!!!  :D

On the other hand, I see a tendency in most people as they get older they get more fearful.  To the point that they don't do things that are perfectly reasonable to do because something 'might' go wrong.  It could be "smarts" or it could be they are becoming weenies.  I lean toward the second thought.  Since I am now officially a geezer according to AARP, I think my perspective has some merit.

I have to admit a lot of things I do are looked on as foolish by others my age.  And I see them as self-limiting weenies.  To each their own.

I still do things that some of my friends and my wife think are a bit extreme. I just sorta pick my spots with more care. A mildly misspent life is one well lived.

I had that discussion with an oncologist two weeks ago. He said "you would trade quality of life for longevity", I said Yeah.
We agreed we were not a good match.
