Against a restored sandcast and a gorgeous gold 750, no chance, but appreciate the thought.

Not what I was really looking for anyway.....I just wanted a neat old CB with a cafe conversion.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the support!

The only thing really left now is carb adjustment, if needed, and clutch adjsutment, if any.

I wonder how strong she'll feel with the front sprocket being 2 teeth smaller....

Joe, I just got back in town and checked out your updates.  The scoot looks super nice with the Lesters, and the tank/cowl combo still makes me grin.  You've got my BOTM vote!  Echoing cornandp's and zapai's comments, let's see some video!

Joe, let me know what you think about the smaller tooth sprocket up front also along with the filter. Swapping out that sprocket is an easy little project I can do any time, as long as its worth it..

Joe and Scott: a 16/48 combo will have you maxed out in 5th at a 1/4 mile, tho some use the 15/48 combo. Wheelies.  Way too many revs for a streetbike, but fun.

A 17/48 will spin the tire as far as you want to go on the street (with the extra HP we're talking about), not so easy to wheelie, and still allow low-buz touring and 135 +/- mph top end.  IMO

Rememberr, 550's are geared differently.

Stock, my bike was geared 17/37.  Now it is 15/37.

Oops sorry about that.

2 off the front will still make a big difference but you'll have to tell us.

Unless you like winding it out, over and over, might be too much, but hey, that's what toys are all about, playing around.

Got the bikes first ride in today!

It is so lean, you have to use the choke....adjusting it as she gets warm to keep her running, so main jets are needed, but WOW.

ALOT of power!  The weight reduction I did, plus the 2 teeth smaller front sprocket has made her accelerate pretty hard!  In fact, in 1st gear going about 10 MPH...if you smack the throttle it'll lift the front wheel off the ground a bit!

Also on a quick shift from 1st to 2nd once, it broke the rear tire loose!

So....I am happy!  Just need to chase down a source for main jets for PD"46" carbs!

I highly recommend the 15T front sprocket for 550 guys who want 750 punch down low. ;D (of course, my bike is alot lighter than a stock 550)

Bike handled VERY well....rear shocks are STIFF.....Pretty cool little CB! ;)

 I am glad she is working for you. If she is running that lean once you have the carbs richened up, it will pull even harder.. I will put the smaller front sprocket on my wish list. Right now my petcock developed a very tiny leak but its only going to get worse so I have to deal with that. I am glad the weather held out for ya..

Now your next mission is to find a video camera for an on board experience for the rest of us!!  ;D

What size did the lesters end up being. And did it end up being a 750 set or was it specific to the 550?

wow....thanks guys for the kind words.

The Lesters were for a CB750.  Had to use the cush drive setup for a 750, but the brake plate is the 550 one.  Did a little part number cross referencing on the Western Hills Honda site, and it showed the 550 brake plate as being a suitable substitute.  Width and axle diameter are the same.  The spacer on the cush drive side is 750 specific, but the spacer on the brake side worked fine.  On the front wheel, as the pictures above show, we had to notch the wheel for the speedo drive pickup, and the "beautification plate" didn't work.  Other than that, it was a bolt on.

Oh....had to custom order a rear sprocket from Sprocket Specialties, as the gearing for a 550 is completely different.

That said, 90 main jets and un-oiled pods means a VERY lean condition! ;D

So I don't know what jets I have in mine, I just cleaned up what was in there because it seem to work ok Hondaman said I did not need  to rejet the carbs on the 550 with pods.. Perhaps that is some thing I need to visit. It seems to be running ok maybe even rich as I can not run it long with the choke on. I will have to look into it. I also wrote down what I need for the front and rear sprocket...  Thanks for all that Joe very helpful.. So...... Is he HD going to sit for a while when all is buttoned up?  ;D

Man after seeing how nice yours turned out I don't even want to post pictures of mine I would be embarrassed... Very nice I just look in aw of its shininess.

Not sure....whatever the "normal" NGK's are.

Anyway, it looks like Z1 enterprises is the place to go for some jets.  Since I am taking off for 2 weeks on vacation, I'll have to try some 115 mains out when I get back and see it that'll do the trick!

Already.....I have the feeling of satisfaction that comes from having finished another bike.  All this stuff I'm doing now is fine tuning.
