cb400f carb removal
« on: April 23, 2005, 11:27:20 PM »
Ready to rebuild my carbs on a 75 cb400f.

Any tips to remove the carbs from the bike?
Looks like a real bear to get them out and
I don't want to destroy anything in the process.

thanks

When I removed the carbs from my CB550 I read and re-read the instructions in the Clymer manual. It covers the same models so I think it would be similar.

I disconnected the throttle cables and clutch cable to make room to slide things out. I could not remove the airbox without removing the carbs, but I did disconnect and remove the rubber boots between the carbs and the airbox. This allowed me room to wiggle the carbs free.

I don't remember anything being particularly tricky. Just take your time, take pictures if you can, take notes, and label everything, even if you think it will be easy to remember where it went. 2 months after taking mine apart I am thankful for the labels. I didn't think it would take this long before I put them back together again.  I wish that I had labeled more.

I didn't realize the boots between the carbs and airbox could be removed.

Will give that a try...
