Just a FYI for next time Arch I just hit the strippers website and it neutralizes with water.  They actually say to clean it with water afterwards to get rid of residue.  I have a old 40gal tote I think I am gonna put a stand with my tank in it and about a inch or so of water so any dripping will get caught and neutralize there.

Thanks for the tip!  I'm glad to know that something as simple as water will do the trick.

Definitely, Daniel! Are you going to join in on any part of the SOHC/4 rally as it comes through Texas and Houston?  My friend a Ace Motorworks is going to host a get-together for us on the afternoon/evening of April 19th. It would be great if you could make it!

It arrived Friday after I left work, so I didn't get to verify that it was here until this morning.  Thanks a million!  Your bracket was supposed to be in the mail last week, so I want to apologize for not getting it out, yet.  The paint had a weird reaction to the primer I used, so I had to strip it and start over.  It looks great now, though, and it'll be on its way today!  It should be there in the next few days.

Cheers, buddy!  And thanks again.  I'll post up some pics with the new fender on the bike.

Check out the Rally info here:
http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?board=125.0

And this will take you directly to our region's leg of the rally:
http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=81307.0

It's going to be epic!

The afternoon/evening of the 19th (next Tuesday), we'll be having a shindig at Ace Motorworks as the rally rolls into Houston.  There will be free beer, food, friends, all manner of debauchery and, of course, motorcycles.  The next morning, we'll mount up and ride to Austin, hit the Hill Country and camp near Lake Travis.

Even if you can't make the ride (join for as much or as little as you're up for), I hope you - and anyone else nearby - can make the party.

Man, oh man!  I guess I forgot to subscribe to this thread long ago (probably in the fall) and I had fallen of the face of the earth for the winter....

Just reread the whole thing, so stoked to see you had gotten it all done (and the brackets going too!), only to stumble upon your accident....

Great to hear that you are recovered and back on the road.  Also, really glad to see you are going to be able to get that badass bike in the 2011 rally!!!!

Hell of a tale, with a happy ending.

the architect - i just bought a 76 750 and your bike is what inspired me to get into the 750 world. one question though, (maybe i mssed it in your posts), did you modify your frame under your seat? the loop behind the seat isnt there on my 76... i have a bolt on loop, but it kinks uprard, and im digging the way that yours looks.

Howdy, bmxjrod!  You've got it right - my frame is modified. A previous owner looking to convert the bike into a cruiser with a solo seat had cut the rear portion of the frame off. That's the piece you're talking about with the top mount for the rear fender. I then cut off the previous owner's hack-job rear fender + solo seat mount. Then I fabricated the hoop you see and welded it to my frame before having it all powder coated. The major obstacle to keep in mind is rear wheel clearance. I ended up running slightly longer rear shocks (~3/4" longer, sourced from an early '80's CB900) to solve my clearance problem.

Let me know if you need more info, and I'm glad you've joined the CB750 Two-wheeled horde!

Cheers!

I've sent you an email, Chris.  This is probably the fifth time to read the thread start to finish.  "Inspiring" barely describes it.  Looking forward to more and/or the next builds.

I just saw your pictures from the wreck, Architect.  Jeez, it's sobering to see that kind of stuff.  Glad that you have recovered and are back on the road, though!  I noticed you've got some nice orthographic drawings in your posts.  I'm looking for a good open-source CAD program,  it doesn't have to be fancy, have you come across any?

I don't know of any that are open-source.  Are you looking specifically for something free, or more something that will let you tweak and play with the code?  I use AutoCad myself (use it at work daily), but that's not what you're looking for.  Maybe research the progs that are available to Linux OS's - their stuff tends to be more open-source friendly.

Cheers!

I continue to appreciate the positive reinforcement about my build.  It started out wtih just me wanting to photograph what I was doing and share all of it, whether it worked or not, just so anyone interested could use it as a learning experience.  I over-think and over-research everything, so I dug deeply into the knowledge here, in our SOHC community.

And I'm working on multiple CB350 twin projects right now, including my first bobber-type build.  I inherited a free partial bike that included a partly cut-up frame.  So, I said "why not cut it up more?"  I'll get some pics up here, soon.

I haven't done the best job of photo-documenting everything, so far, but here's a link to what I've got thus far.  I'm a bit farther along, now.  But this gives an idea of where I'm going with it.

I don't want to post up a bunch of pics unrelated to the SOHC/4 build, so I'm adding the link to my 350 project photos:
