ready to get the bodywork to the painter after the holidays. 

Tell me what you think about flat/satin black

The bike is going to be a rider and not a showpiece.  Im not concerned with shiny alumnum bits and schanzzy bling.   I am worried that flat/satin black will make the bike look less finished and amateurly done though.  If I were going with a flat/satin black, i would accent it with gloss black striping.  The striping would mimic the striping on the 350F tank and be similar on the fiberglass seat and maybe a little detail on the side covers.

My other option is gun-metal, charcoal, or dark gray with black striping and a ton of clear.

Im getting to the final stages of this project and am anxious to ride.  Anyone have an opinion?  Ive never seen a flat paintjob i liked so im hestitant to try.

I like the Gun Metal Grey look as the main colour.
It would look good with a black gloss frame.
The satin black is another favourite if it's not over done.
Maybe the triple tree and the brake caliper and a few other bits to break it up a bit.

I'm in the process of planning a build and have been toying with flat orange and flat black combo similiar to original paint scheme..I'll probably do a mock up with some rattle cans maybe you can do the same?

Hey Selli,
 Try a glossy gunmetal grey with satin black stripes. It's sort of the way some of the resto mod hotrods are going and it looks pretty cool.

FYI, the flat colors will buff to a shine anywhere your knees, and heels rub the bike.  It happened on mine.

did a lot of thinking over the Christmas break...spent a lot of time driving.  Im going with a dark charcoal metallic accented with gloss black stripes and black shaved sidecovers

Almost every cafe I see has the same stripe(single stripe running down the middle of tank and seat)  It works very well and may end up my stripe of choice.  It would also be easy for the painter to do this stripe job. 

I like the option below too but i don't know if the painter will be able to pull this off.  It may have to go to a pinstripe guy

I like ur sketch, good design, good proportions. If you do a flat gunmetal color with gloss black striping that'd look awesome I think.

Just painted mine. the frame is flat black/satin black and the tank a seat clip are gloss jet black with some silver sparkle stripes on the tank. If you need some pin stripes let me know I work at a vinyl shop . Lots of options . Personally I think flat does look amateur when used as a main theme color . gloss just says sexy and wow....here's mine

Im going with the classic look of a single stripe down the middle tank and seat.  There is a reason this scheme is on a multitude of cafes.........it looks friggin awesome!  Sure, a lot of cafes use this striping, but I won't run across one in the flesh.  They all live in internet land.  Hopefully the paint dude gets it done quick so I can post pics and show the sucker off!

Whiteorbs.....i like the decal on the seat section.  I'll probably add something back there to break up that area.  Your paint came out great.  Why did you use a decal stripe instead of paint?

sellitsoon thanks, I work at a vinyl shop so I have access to alot of cool stuff. Plus if I decide to change the color scheme I can remove the vinyl and do so , paint is not so easy.  If you need some decals let me know . i got tons left and I am not a hoarder.

Body work will be removed later today and taken to the painter.  I'll chat with him about stripe designs and see what he thinks.  He says finishing the tank and painting should be done in about a week.  I can handle that. 

Nice shiny paint is going to make the rest of the bike look crappy.

Yours does look fantastic, but flat colors done well can also knock your socks off...this is my friends sportster/nightster I painted and him and I love it...but like you said it's a personal preference. I didn't think I would like it but it's how he wanted it...and i ended up loving it lol.

It's a 3 stage paint job, silver base coat, copper candy color, then a flat clear coat.
