New with a 76 550F
« on: December 21, 2009, 02:02:45 PM »
Hello, new to the board.

Recently got a CB550F as a project bike. Title says '76 but the model id info on this site matches 75 for VIN and the color doesn't match either.  The gauges are metric and all the stickers are in japanese ("pour fuel here", "do not insert finger", that kind of stickers, not the decorative type).  Should be interesting.  Not in bad shape for the most part but sounded like everything can takes adjustment needs it.

welcome to the SOHC4 community, this site can become addicting. a great place for info about your bike. is yours the super sport with the 4 to 1 exhaust? "do not insert finger".... i find that funny :D

The tank stickers say Super Sport (one side does anyway, the other one says "Sup    port") and it does have the 4 into 1 exhaust but I'm not so sure it's original, at least the muffler.  It's bolted to the frame with a standard fastener through some random bracket, not what the part diagrams show.  I thought all the F's were super sports and came with the 4 into 1.  Is this not true?

All the F model CB550s (Us models 75-77) were super sports and came from the factory with the swoopy 4 into 1 headers, and a single large muffler.
I have an entire set of F models.  ;D

The K models had 4 into 4 exhaust.

The F model is the Super Sport.
They came with the four into one exhaust that I didn't like.
I replaced mine with a Kerker when new. I posted a picture of mine under "Newbie from CT".
I didn't ask to keep the stock exhaust at the time; I'm still kicking myself for that screw up!
An original 550 F exhaust just sold on ebay for $550.00!
I think the 1976 550F new was something like $2100.00.
