When doing rearsets......
« on: December 23, 2009, 08:05:41 PM »
I plan on putting rearsets on my CB500 eventually.  This forum has been outstanding as far as sources and pictures of mounting rearsets. One idea ive tossed around is using a backing plate that mounts with the swingarm pivot bolt and the motor mount bolt that holds the footpegs. (as ive seen on here) The question I have is if I were using flat stock to make my backing plate, would the pivot bolt still be long enough after I run it through the backing plates on either side so that the nut would still tighten down enough to be safe? Let me know if that doesnt make sense.

any plate that is thick enough to provide solid backing for the rearsets would likely make the pivot bolt too short if you're running the bolt thru two plates.

I had a set of Tarrozi bolt ons on my 500 and they looked fantastic!

installation took less than an hour.

totally worth it.

Would the solution be to find a longer pivot bolt from a different model CB? Maybe a CB750? Or would the diameter be incorrect? Im trying to plan out as much as I can ahead so I dont end up with a cluster when I go to do the build.

I did what you are talking about on my CB750 K8 project. I got a swing arm pivot from an F2/3. It actually turned out to be a touch too long (better long than short, huh?). In theory, your concept will work. It's just a matter of getting the right diameter bolt (and long enough, too).

Oh ya, I remember reading your entire build thread KB02 . Must have missed the part about the pivot bolt. Oops.  ::) I assume you mean the CB750 F2/F3, not cbr? correct?

Yes, that would be correct.  Honda has been using the F, F2, F3 designations for a while.

Here's the Tarozzi's...   worth every penny for looks and ease of installation.  Not the same feeling as DIY, but it worked for me.

Hmm, I really like the way those Tarozzi's mount. Almost makes me want to rethink a design for mounting. I think im going to stick with home made, just because money is a little tight on this project. But thank you for posting those pics of your bike. I like the color scheme on it. Its very old school.  :)
