Turns signals not blinking
« on: December 24, 2009, 10:32:46 AM »
On my winter project 78 CB750K the turn signals will come on steady & I hear a buzzing sound but no blinkie  ???  While removing the battery tray to repaint I pulled all the electrical off & noticed someone has install a 2 terminal flasher & the green wire is left unhooked.

One common cause of a blinker steady on condition is the lack of a ground.

Normal....... the stock flasher relay is 2 wire that ground is not used in the stock blinker circuit. Have you looked at the bulb wattages?...also a slightly drained battery will not 'fire' the thermal ( stock ) relay, but should flash o.k. with a running bike. A lot of guys replace the old stocker with an electronic relay that flashes at a steady rate regardless of low or fully charged battery. Any AutoParts store should have one.....good luck, Merry Christmas!

Yep all of what Spanner said and try earthing that green wire while the indicators are on, does it flash now?

A low battery could cause this too.

Not sure about '78, but earlier 750's have an extra green unused ground. And I believe they all use only a two-wire blinker. Make sure all your bulbs are good. You may have a short someplace....

I think Ya'll hit the nail on the head.  The battery is toast.  I was trying to charge the battery & after 12 hrs I tried all the lights horn ect.  But the battery would not take a charge, so with the head light & tail light on the charger probable didn't have enough juice to work the blinkers.  Trouble shooting is so much easier when you just ask.  ;D   Also at some point in time it looks like corrosion got the better of the main (15 amp) fuse holder & there was a terminal failure (pun intended) some one by passed the fuse holder & harness, & installed an inline 15 amp fuse using wire nuts (like you would see in your house) obviously I'm not going to leave this like this.  Are there original style fuse boxes available, or a common used alternative?  The other 2 positions look to be serviceable but not in great condition.

Glad you had success with the prob.... lots of guys have replaced the 3 stock fuse-holder with car type 'blade' fuses...do a search....

"I hear a buzzing sound"

do you also have a signal buzzer still on the bike?   78?` May want to look around, because it may be hooped or need cleaning as well.

i know the old switch makes a noise too.......... ;)
