new head gasket-- bad shipping
« on: December 24, 2009, 12:22:47 PM »
I just got the new h. gasket in (ordered from ebay-40.00) and it was bent in a few spots during shipping. It was labels NOS and its for a cb650.  Should I send it back and try to get some $ back or do you guys think it'll be ok to use?

Depends where it's bent and how bad. If the rings around the cylinders are bent, I woudn't trust it. If it is kinked and can't be smoothed out, I'd send it back. My .02

You paid top dollar for it expecting it to be perfect and it's not.  Why even take a chance.
Take a pic but send it to the seller and demand your money back or an exchange for a gasket if perfect shape.  Let him pursue a claim against the shipper.

If you use it and there is problem not only do you have to do the job again but then you definitely have no claim against the seller.

Both HG's that I got were shrink wrapped to a piece of cardboard and then placed inside a somewhat larger box.
You paid good money for shipping and handling, but you sure didn't get it.

The only way I would get one shipped thru the mail is to be wrapped against a piece of Coroplast or at least 4 layers of cardboard with the gasket in between..

I'd never use a head gasket that wasn't in 100% perfect condition, but I'm pretty anal that way.
