Well done Rene and Yrjo, it had to happen, all the hard work and disapointments paid off in the end, it was just a matter of time. 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
Was John Cronshaw in that race on a Gold Star or was it just one of his bikes?

Bad luck last two races:
At Whitsun  we had two races , Yrjo was 5th on the startgrid.
Race 1:
During the warmup lap the bike wouldn't shift well into third and fifth gear.
With a bad shifting bike Yrjo finished on 5th place.
After the race I split the engine to see what was wrong , I found a gearshiftfork which was a littke bit bend, so I replaced it.
Next day in the warming up practice everything worked well.
Race 2:
Yrjo made a good start and was on third place during 4 laps, but then he was passed and was on fouth place , till in the penultimate lap the clutchcable broke.
Yrjo told afterwards that he was fast enough to keep third place till he got problems with the third gear again.
So no finish this race.
I have to split the engine again and  check the gearbox .

renee .....

are you using K1-K2 cases and gearbox? would go for K3 that has already the "550" box (if they were sold in NL) or even complete 550 cases and box if allowed.

guess your dogs must be undercut right?

I know I'm a little late here, but how do those drums perform? I LOVE the way they look. Also I'm completely digging the leovinci can.

hi rene

not sure what are you showing us in the pictures.... that the problem was the undercut? or the reason you cant use a k3 box...?

:)

I was showing the 350K undercut gearbox w're using.
The problem was again a bend gear shift fork and some gears were slightly damaged.
We replaced the complete transmission with another 350K one , cheap to find on Ebay.
We used till now the outerclutch basket from a 650 with 61 teeth and a primary shaft with 26 teeth.
Now we have changed that for a 550 basket and primary shaft.(63-24)
We think the gearshift problems are caused by a to fast running of the transmission.
Next race we will find out if this works better.
Does a 550 transmission fit in 500 cases ?

I don't have both clusters in my hand, but imagine the 550 cluster would fit. The 550 uses a separate shaft for two of the shifter forks, only one fork on the drum. The shift mechanism behind the clutch is different as well.

But don't let that stop you Rene, where there's a will, there's a way! I hung the shift fork shaft on brackets from the upper case for my 6spd. The shifting mechanism surely could be made to work. Off the top of my head I don't remember if the lugs on the 550 cases are actually different from the 500 anyway.

Good news guys, seems like Yrjo likes this new chassis package.

Did you ever have time to look at the 550 gear clusters in the 500 cases?

It seems indeed now that we have the good package and next race we try the new Conti Attack CR racing tyres.
I have n't a 550 gear cluster but out tuner says it wont'fit.

Very bad crash from Yrjo at the Classic races in Chimay Belgium last sunday:

Yrjo made a terrible crash , Colin Stockdale (IOMTT9) saw it happen.
On second place behind Steve Elliot in the third lap he touched a strawbale in a very fast right corner ( fullspeed in 4th gear) with his right leg and then he couldn't hold the bike and then made a frontal crash on the left side of the track in a tyre wall.
He broke his right hip,his left flintbone and his ankle wich is an open fracture.
The fractures are all very complicated,he is directly operated in the Chimay hospital.
Thursday he is tansported to the university hospital in Anwerpen for further examination.
Yrjo is still in the hospital in Belgium - Antwerpen , first he was at the local hospital in Chimay were the races were.
His ankle and hip are very serious fractures,
There is a big chance he will stay handicapped.
We hope that he will transported to Holland next week , where he can work on his recovery in a rehabilitation center.
When he may leave the bed , he has to sit for three month in an wheelchair and then work on his rehalibitation.
He is fit and strong , so we hope that his recovery turns out  the good way.
Racing is forever finished for us both , I will never go trough this again.

regards René

The bike is very heavy damaged , the frame is broken behind the stearing head.
Here some pictures , first pic when everything was still ok , on 2d place on the starting grid.

That's really really bad to hear,

Yrjo, i am holding my fingers crossed for you, wishing that you can go back to be as much normal as possible, as soon as possible.

I am suffering now the effects of a road crash related fracture/infection that went bad in my left foot which is limiting me from running and such, so can only imagine what is it to be in your condition.

Be strong, we are all glad that you are with us in the first place after such a big one

Oh man I'm sorry to hear this news too.  Nothing but good thoughts for you Yrjo.

You're right though Rene, he's a young strong guy in great shape so hopefully this will help him in his recovery.

I hope you get him home to Holland soon, good luck. Please keep us up to date Rene.
