We all know the risks of racing but this kind of news is always bone chilling...

Yrjo, I wish you a speedy and FULL recovery.... and listen to your physiologist and do all the darn exercises they tell you when it comes to that ! A friend of mine badly fractured his right ankle and hip when dropping from 10 meters onto concrete (rock climbing- another hobby), and was also told he would probably never walk straight again, but with a lot of exercise ( and being a young, fit chap like you ) he proved everybody wrong. Takes a lot of effort and persistence, but so does racing...which you were good at !

Rene, the best to you and your family in these times, that must have been a hell of a scare when the announcer reports the incident involving number 7....

I had wished that the announcer reports the incident , but none of that.
After missing him and the red flag situation I knew that is was Yrjo, I asked the organisation to confirm that but they didn't.
This was the most horrible time of my live because in the saturday training there was a rider killed but they didn't say nothing about it,so I thought had something like that happened.
After some time the riders came into the pit and I asked Colin S.(IOMTT9) if he knew something and he told he saw him crash very hard.
Our fiend also on a Honda in the same race came in the pit after some time, he was stopped at the accident and stayed with Yrjo all the time till the ambulance brought him to the hospital.
He informed us about his injuries , some time after that we went to the racedirector and heard he was already in the hospital.
Perhaps this is the belgium way to inform the family.

he touched a strawbale in a very fast right corner ( fullspeed in 4th gear) with his right leg and then he couldn't hold the bike and then made a frontal crash on the left side of the track in a tyre wall.

The strawbale and the tire wall, which should be safety devises, don't work for motorcycles. Same as the "launching ramp" that contributed to Bear's injury. :(
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

Wow, that must have been horrible, with the Saturday events in the back of your mind !
Although I can understand that at the very first moment they focus entirely on the patient and not the family ( same drill as at emergency rooms in hospitals ), surely they should/could have announced a few short words shortly thereafter.

I'm buidling up a 'new' bike with last years frame and the Davies swingarm, pics come later.
I have to repair some things from the crash bike to use them and I had a lot of spare parts.
If the bike is ready I will sell it with a complete tuned spare engine (65 rwp) and all other racestuff we have (also many original Cb500 engine parts)
Price € 10000,= - US $ 12500,=  £ 8000,=

Rebuild of the bike , I took last years frame and cut of the part behind the shock mounts.
Still this frame weights 16 kg without swingarm, the Davies frame 7 kg.
But I use the Davies swingarm and had to make bronze bushings to fit the original swingarm axle in it.

Rene, was your Davis Frame ruined in the crash? Are you "temporarily" retiring from campaigning a vintage racer? I have really enjoyed your build and exploits on the dyno and on the track. Really hope you continue to build and that Yrjo makes a full recovery.

Hi Kemp,

The Davies frame was indeed ruined by the crash , the tube behind the steering head is broken and bend.
We are not temporarily retiring but definitive.
I am rebuilding the bike as you can see on the pictures , it is nearly ready and then it is for sale with a spare tuned engine.

Hey Renee,

We didn't find a good home for the bike till now, however there is a lot of interest , bust most people think it's a bargain.
Since last week Yrjo is from monday till saturday back in the rehabilitationclinic working on a rehabilitation program.

Hope Yrjo will see the fruits of his labor in the clinic soon, and things start to improve mobility wise.
Too bad you have a lot of tire kickers. But with (classic) race bikes you will always invest more money into it then it'll ever return, unless it's a Brough you've inherited from your grandad  8).

Cool to see these guys kicked some ass over there, we're a small country but we can do big things sometimes ;) !

Yesterday I've sold the bike with all the spare parts.
The end of an intensive hobby.

Yrjo has to undergo a new surgery tomorrow, his hipjoint will not heal.
They will place a hipprothese.
