Very nice to meet you here as well, Rene. As I already mentioned on the Dutch Motor-Forum, you are doing a very great job. Really impressive, like all your previous projects. Well done.
hope to meet you once in Holland to share ideas (as you know, I am also restoring a '73 CB750K2, same color)

Yesterday we were at the suspension specialist YSS Europe. http://www.yss.co.th/
Because we use YSS rearshocks for a Kawasaki 1100 Zephyr we had made a deal with them when the bike was ready , they would adjust the shocks for our bike.
The springs were much to heavy and stif also the damping was much to hard.
They did an excellent job , they mounted new shorter and lighter springs and also new oil in it and adjust the rebound damping.
Also they did take a look at the frontfork suspension , and mounted new progressive springs and also filled the fork with the right oil upon a level with a 120mm airchamber left.
The fork was then setup with the right preload.
Now the total suspension and damping feels very good.

First picture is with the original springs , the other ones with the new springs.
Now we are complete ready for the circuittest on saturday 13 march.

Last friday we went to the circuit de Croix in the north of French.
Saturday it was the whole day free practice so we could  test our bike on the circuit and  let my son get used to the bike.
It was cold but dry and there were 8 sessions of 20 minutes.
Because of the cold there were many crashes, the french riders are crazy , cold asphalt and tyres and still going if they had to win a race.
Our bike ran very well and my son got more and more used to the bike.
He never raced on a classic bike with drumbrakes , but every session he was going faster.
But starting the bike for the sixt session, the bike was making suddenly a lot of noise on the right side in the cilinderhead , immediately we put the motor off.
Taking of the valve covers  we noticed that from cilinder four , the rockerarm of the inletvalve had a big clearance.
But the nut and screw were still locked , it was not possible to push in the valve.
Probably there was something with that valve.
So end of the day for us , we packed our things together and went home.
Today we took off the cilinderhead and noticed that the inletvalve was stucked in the valve guide, but there was no further damage.
Only a little touch of the piston by the valve.
It was no oil problem , plenty of oil in the head .
We went with the cilinderhead to our tuner to find out what went wrong.
He had to press out the valve, the valve was not bent, but on the stem there were scratches with another type of metall in it.
Looking in the valveguide there was missing some metall in it what was now on the valve stem.
We examined all the valvestems and valveguides , they had all light scratches.
Then our tuner told that he had used valves with a litlle thicker valve stems as usual by our engine.
Probably was that the cause.
He promised to fix it as soon as possible and we trust him.
We have still three weeks to go for the first race.

what is the diameter of the stem in those valves?

those pistons look very bumpy, how much compression are you running?

dont lose heart!

As always great photos and descriptions. Thanks for that and good luck in sorting out your engine.

Good luck

so the problem is that the guides weren't honed to proper clearance with the larger valve stems? i'm surprised, as your tuner is obviously quite competent. in any case, i hope he gets it sorted out in time for your first race. how did your son like the handling?

Hey René,

Sorry to hear of that misfortune with the valves. Hope Yrjo liked the handling? Bike is looking great.

The stem diameter is 5,5 mm and the compression is 1 : 12

My son really enjoined riding the bike and he liked the handling, last 2 years he had a Honda VTR1000 SP1 and that is big difference.

It looks so , but i have confidence in the tuner that he find out what the real cause is.
My son liked the handling so far , but was not pushing very hard.
