Dutch Open classic race at the Ducati weekend in Assen on 30/5
Friday: We went to Assen ,nice weather there , Colin Stockdale (forumname :
IOMTT9) was also there and he brought his friend David Martin with him.
David's bike was equipped was four megaphones and made to much noise , so he had to change the compleet exhaust systeem into a 4 in 1
David left , Colin right
Saturday: Also nice weather.
First qualifying , the classic championship riders were divided in two groups together with all kind of classic italian race and road bikes ( Ducati/Italian event)
But most of these riders have no expirience on racetracks , many of them are riding different lines.
That makes it dangerous for the expirienced riders.
The bike was not running good , missed 2000 rpm's , the result 21 place of 39 riders.
I checked everything on the engine and found two sparkplugs with a black colour the other two looked good.
So I changed all four with new ones.
The new frontbrake is tremendous , Yrjo said it feels like a modern discbrake.
Second qualifying, I saw Yrjo only the first lap coming through.
And that where we were afraid of happened.
He was crashed , hit at his frontwheel by an 'amateur' on a roadbike who missed the apex of a corner.
See the black spot on the frontfender.
Yrjo was not injured and the bike had some small damage.
Scratches on the fairing and a broken front brake lever.
Positive thing was that the bike was running very well again after changing the sparkplugs.
So 21th startposition for the race next day.
Sunday:
Race: The weather forecast said that a lot of rain would be coming and they were right.
Ten minutes before the race very heavy showers with stormy wind.
The track was like an river.
Therefore the race was shortened from 10 to 8 laps.
Yrjo made a bad start , almost last.
Afterwords he told , he couldn't see the starting light very good because another rider blocked the sight on the light , so he reacted to late.
But during the race every lap he took some places helped by the speed of the Honda and by other riders who crashed or had mechanical problems.
He finished on 12 th place , I think a good result after the bad start and the horrible weather conditions.
But there was a man from the UK , called Colin Stockdale , who finished at 5th place.
He felt like a fish in the water.
What a man , the night before drinking and dancing till midnight and then this result.
His friend David finished on the 20th place.
They stay this week in Holland and go to another dutch classic race in Belgium Oostende , where we meet again.
I hope that it is dry and Yrjo can finish in front of that 'oldtimer'.
