choosing spring rates for rear shocks
« on: December 30, 2005, 08:00:29 AM »
Hey all,

I'm on a quest for a pair of progressive rate springs for my nos Konis (76f model 1296).  These shocks  (for the 750) did not come with springs.  The Progressive Suspension springs (100lb/140lb) springs that I purchased for them fit on the shocks fine but end up being to small in ID as they rub the shock body a bit durin operation.  Progressives other spring options seem to be too large in ID.  I am in the process of negotiating with Ikon (Koni's inheritor) for a set of springs which should be identical in fit to those that  Koni offered for these shocks.  The two springs rates I am considering are an 84-146lb rate or a 100-180lb rate.  Ikon's shocks for the 750 typically come with the 100-180 rate but I am worried that these will be a bit too stiff for my 150lbs and my mildly stripped 750.  I noticed in an earlier posting that "Hondaman" recommended a 90-120 rate from Progressive for the 750 and that the stock springs were straight 110lbs. . . . Ikon's in Australia so it  won't exactly be cheap to get a set of springs sent to the US so I want to make a good decision.  What do ya''ll think?  Oh and if anyone has any thoughts on other spring suppliers I'm all ears.  Thanks

I have a pair of Koni springs in the 100/140/185 rate with free height of 9.25" They are in very nice shape. I could send a pic if you like.

Mike-

I would most certainly be interested in a your pair of springs!  If it's easy enough you could send me a pick to eurban@cavtel.net.  Thanks
