noob question cb750 k6
« on: January 01, 2010, 08:27:12 AM »
Went for a short run yesterday about 15 miles. About 1 mile from home bike suddenly looses power and very noisy from carb area.
This morning checked plugs all appear to be ok,
Started bike, all four exhaust headers get hot at  same time runs fine for about five mins till engine gets hot then starts up with loud noises and loss of power.
Bike has pods but has been running ok all summer.
Any hints as to general area to search would be most appreciated.
Thanks   Andre

By "loud noises" do you mean backfiring, metal clanking or what? Try pulling a float bowl off to see if there is junk in it. This will be a process of elimination thing.

I was thinking the loud noise being like a loud suction sound like it's not getting gas.

lets wait and see what he says. :)

I'm wondering if it's an obstruction in the fuel lines, like maybe the petcock is clogged.

hi guys
the loud noise is something like a cross between suction noise and like an unmuffled exhaust sound if that helps any.
im just looking for general ideas as to where to look as im taking the engine out for rebuild in feb anyhow.

look at your fuel system from the jets on up to the petcock.
I'll bet that's where your problem is.

I don't have a camera so unfortunately video is not an option at the moment.
pulled off all fuel lines and gave them a good clean out, topped up tank and she is now running fine.
feel a bit dumb for not spotting this myself.
many thanks guys for pointing me in the right direction, especially industrial cafe.
