what should I put here?
« on: December 26, 2009, 03:19:07 PM »
There's a 3/4'' x 1/2'' rectangle (on the right) on my upper tree that I want to fill with something.

I was thinking, a super bright LED behind an audi A4 side marker for the oil light.
they're about one inch square.

I'd like to have a 1 inch analog oil temp gauge to flush mount into there, but I cant find one.

throw some ideas at me.

Either one sounds good to me, but what do I know? ;D

Okay, I've had time to think. What about a gear indicator? Just an idea. :)

hmm... what about a neutral light and an oil light under one lens. I've seen dual color LEDs before.
green and red.

Indicator lights would be cool, but I think Bill got it right. A gear indicator would be pretty damn cool. Wonder if there is one out there that would work...

it's a great idea, but I don't think there's a way to indicate what gear I'm in on the K8 motor.

edit: is there?

Yeah, I didn't know if there was a way to do that or not. Just thought it WOULD be cool though. Moving right along.  That Neutral light/ Oil pressure light under one lens would be cool as well. How much trouble would THAT be? Might be something that OTHERS might consider as well. Could be a Market for a deal like that, ya think? ???

I'm trying to find a dual color LED for 12v systems. I've found white/red and green/red in 5 volts.
all I'd have to do is drill a 1/2'' hole in the rectangle and shave off the snap tabs on the audi sidemarker.

I could always get the 5v ones for a computer and use a resistor...

I have some 7 color LED windshield washer lights, but they just work off a switch.

I also have 100 blue and ultraviolet leds and 12v~5v resistors from a project I never finished.

The green neutral light would be a nice touch. And functional. Shouldn't be to hard to sort out :-\

I'd like to put a lens over it too, I don't want a little round light in a big square hole

as it sits now, I don't have any indicator lights.

i have a few suggestions, feel free to use any of them
1 - pez dispenser (my favorite)
2 - eject button
3- eject switch
4- you could put your name there really little in pig latin.
5- cigarette lighter
6- small candle holder (with a candle, could also be used to light cigarettes)
I will keep thinking about it. If I come up with anything better I will post it up later

Put a switch there and mark it something like "Panic Switch".  Hook it to your horn with a flasher unit.  See how many people come up and throw it.
Go metric, every inch of the way!

ha, I was thinking I might drill it up real good. I've seen them machined out "skeleton" style before.

But I'd need at least a 1 inch bit to get rid of that rectangle, and it's too close to the frame on the under side.
not sure how strong it has to be either. it's pretty thick.

I think a lighted waterproof kill switch would be cool. one that only lights up when the oil light comes on... kinda like an E-stop.  but the one by my thumb is already there and more accessible so....

Needs a button.

I thought TT's find was pretty cool! ;)

Or, since when a body is out on the bike, they might have to be told when to take a break, since riding is SO enjoyed by us and therefore a "BREAK TIME" light would be cool. :D Don't know how you could actuate it though, unless it was just setup on a timer. :) Just a crazy thought.   ;D
