How about a radar detector?  This one mounts in a 2.1" hole and it's the smallest I've found...and this price is like $50 less than anywhere else I saw: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000ALGNGO/ref=cm_rdp_product

Considering you're in florida I won't suggest a thermometer as black ice isn't an issue...

An altimeter isn't really a good choice since the tallest mountain in florida is space mountain...

A compass might be useful, but don't they need a flat mounting surface?

Maybe a self destruct button? http://www.strapya-world.com/categories/2331_2869.html

You could mount a deer whistle there... http://www.sav-a-life.com/Deeralert_intro.htm?gclid=CKXRi9WO954CFcNM5QodVXHwcQ

You could glue on a Darth Vader figure facing foreward...

A camera mount?

Foreward cannon mount?

Seatbelt warning light?

How about a tire pressure monitor?

The display is a little large at 1.7”W x 1.95”L x 1.4”D though...

the tire monitor is a cool idea, but I think I like the camera mount,
I could use that quite a bit.
I could make a vibration isolation pad out of an in dash cd player, they have little silicone isolators in them.
I think I have some of those and an old cam mount bolt here somewhere.

I'd have to make it with some sort of quick release doodad.

Good choice, you can always mount a deer whistle or a cannon to it later on too...

The trees I'm using have that spot too, but since I've milled the clutch cable loop and ignition switch loop off to mount my stock clocks it's almost covered.
And the idiot light panel obscures it pretty well too. I'll probably fill it in with some JB Weld an smooth it out so it's not too noticeable.
Cheers.

How about a light that comes on when you break the ton?

Sorta like the JDM speed warning light, but cooler :D

I do like that idea, seems like it would be the nicest looking, aesthetically.
