I think Yamaha, Kawasaki, or Honda should sponsor Buell now.

screw suzuki. they have enough recognition as it is.

and hells yeh.  Lighter, real performing twin.   :D :D  Hell the SV1000 mill would fit the bill fine.

i have 2 harleys,one panhead and 1 evo sportster and of course the 750.when i want to style and profile i ride the panhead,when i want stump pulling torque i ride the sportster and when i want to hear a 10 grand wail,then of course i ride the 750.they each have their place.

I do love the motors of  old though.  I think the Knuck and Pan are works of art...i guess flatties are neat too..  Shovels never really did it for me in the looks dept.

Man what did I do? It was never my intention when I started this thread to start a war between fellow forum members. All of us are here because of these great classic Honda SOHC 4's and the appreciation we have for them. I am so thrilled that I have one of these fine machines and cannot see myself ever selling it and I bet the rest of you fill the same about your Honda's. But I am also rather fond of my Harley also and don't see myself selling it either. When I get to old to throw my leg over the saddle of either bike I think I'll just past them down to my sons. I don't think of myself as only a Honda rider or only a Harley rider, IM A MOTORCYCLE RIDER - how about y'all.

When my Dad was young (in the 1950s) he had a 1949 Hydraglide(?) - it was the first year they made them (<1949 was the springer front suspension).  It had a full race cam and some other hopped up stuff.  He let my Mom drive it one day with him riding pillion and they spilled it when a dog ran out in front of them.  Man... I'd love to have that bike... but he sold it a long time ago.

He loved that bike.  He always said that if I ever rode a Harley, I'd never want to ride anything else. 

Well, he bought a 1996 Heritage about 2 years ago.  The bike had less than 2000 original miles on it, but the damn thing broke down.  Don't ask me why, but the HD dealer said that he'd have to replace the engine!  So... he did.  At his cost (about $3,000).  That raised the cost of his purchase from $9,000 to $12,000.  I felt terrible for him.  I wish he'd have let me try to fix the bike.  I still don't understand why they had to replace the engine.  I think they took advantage of him.

Anyway, I felt terrible for him because of the cost of the repair.  But I felt even worse because all those years since he sold his '49, he talked up HD as the best thing since sliced bread.  Now that glitter in his eyes for HD is gone.  It's like he got heartbroken by a first love.  Or like realizing you've been living a lie for so long.

Like I said, I'd love to get my hands on that old '49 that he used to own.  But who knows what ever happened to it....

Bikes are like tools: there's one for every job.  A long haul on a sport bike is torture and carving twisties on a wide-glide is spooky, and driving a screw with a hammer aint easy, but you'll eventually pull it off.

Yes, there are only two types of bikes - Harleys and sport bikes.

How about the ST1300? It runs an 11.5 quarter mile vs. the V-Rod's 11.9.

I'd bet it would handle a long-haul better than the V-Rod and carve corners about as well as a novice can on a sport bike. A stock Harley can't compare with the combination of performance and versatility. Cruisers are in the Special Olympics of motorcycling - they can't compete at all with the other categories because of disabilities, so they have to have their own category where they can run high 11-second quarter miles and freak out at 94hp/liter and pat each other on the back for it.

 What I do find amusing on here, is I have heard of  persons on here, talk of building a HD beater, and live in the state where they are built.. which gets me to thinking that what they has to hear in the evening in nice biking weather, is probably making it worse for him.. :o... just thinking..

Well... I'm not sure what color legs his bike had... all the photos are black and white.   :D  But I seem to recall him saying that they were black.  I think the rest of the bike was turquoise.  I really wish I had that bike... not a same model bike... THAT bike (the one he personally owned).  That would be ultra-cool.  But some doofus probably chopped it years ago (uh-oh... did I just start something...?  ;D).

By the way... after my parents hit the dog (killed it) and spilled the bike (Mom got hurt), the bike wouldn't start and the handlebars were tweaked.  My Dad called a friend to come over and they got it started (a float was stuck).  Then my Dad's friend said, "Hop on" and took my Dad for a ride hitting speeds in excess of 100 mph... just minutes after my Dad was in an accident.  Those were the days!   :)

You know that is some sound thinking.. I am in the middle of my build and I am finding the same problem with parts.. Perhaps I should have done some thing like that also. Hum.. Would kill the guy across the street tho cause he is a Harley purist. Personally I say you ride what you like and as a biker, treat every other biker (regardless of what they ride) with respect.

Fact is, Rossi is the best racer in the world.  If he moved to Ducati, stoner would get pushed to the side.  If Rossi wasn't @ Yamaha, they would never have won a GP event.

IF Rossi would have stayed at Honda, he would have won more GP titles

What I don't get it why don't they at least add a little LED as a shift light? I'm alway bouncing off the rev limiter and the damn things knocking like its about to blow. ;D They rev so low...

Words......Rossi himself says that Stoner is a "freak" . First you say its Yamaha, then you say its Rossi....say anything you like but Stoner and Rossi on the same bikes would be an awesome sight and in 10 races they would most likely go 5 a piece......I know guys that have been in MC racing all their lives and they say Stoner is a 1 of a kind, and going on the amount of world champs we pump out in m/c racing i will take their word for it.....Rossi is good but was he better than Doohan.?     all just words...
