I saw the sneak-preview story about the new Honda in a local newspaper story in Milwaukee in June of '69.  I ordered my CB750 in July and paid cash and my customized black bomber. The bike arrived in late August for Labor Day and I read the CYCLE article at the dealership.

Do they make anything like that now that would truely set an industry on its heels and get 50,000 people to buy the item for each of the next 10 years?

Geez, what did I spy... :o

Is that a lightened rotor.. ???

Or did they have no lip, then lip for 71  & 72, then removed it...??

or is it in fact a hot-rodded magazine test special... ???

 HHMMMMMMmmm, got me wondering now...

I remember that article!
I also remember:
$1495 in New York? How come they are $1695 in Chicago?
Hey, the combustion chambers don't look like that! (The center ridge vanished by production time).
Where did that big exhaust valve go? (the one in the article was from a 305cc CL77 engine, prototype. The smaller exhaust valve solved the overlap problem handily.)
Why is the rotor on my K1 so much thicker? (I know the answer to that one).
That oil filter housing looks so different.?

I especially liked the pictures of the guy who appeared to be pussyfooting it around some corners for the photos: Mike Hailwood was my hero at the time (still is in many ways!), and the first thing I did when I got my OWN CB750 was take it to the fastest, tightest curves I could find and dragged the centerstand and right passenger peg to see how hard it would go! I wore out a set of genuine waterbuffalo boots, dragging their edges on the asphalt.

...and boy, was I hooked...  :o

One of the things I wish Honda HAD done in production was shown in the bottom-end view of these parts: there was a steel clip that held the oil pump's screen in place. I can't get a clear enough picture here to see how it was attached, but it's still a good idea as the screens are usually too old intheir rubber to remove and reinstall today.

Maybe another Hondaman product...the list covers a whole page, now!
