I was going through some photos from a ride I took for a few days on the Road King the end of September and saw there was a theme that would fit this thread.  The theme being old, mostly abandoned places along highways out in the middle of what is now nowhere.

I'll start with some scenery pics along Utah 21.  I always say that while US 50 in Nevada is touted as the loneliest highway, I believe Utah 21 between Milford and Garrison has it beat.  I've ridden the 75 mile stretch a few times without seeing another vehicle.  I've heard people say it is desolate, but I really don't know what they are talking about.  It is beautiful -
An old cabin outside Garrison -

Utah 21 scenery -

When in Milford, I will usually take a pic of the Milford Hotel.  This time, the owner saw me outside and came out and invited me in to look around.  I gladly accepted.

The owner told me some kids broke in and were playing flamethrower with lighters and hairspray and started a fire.  The fire department showed up eventually, but in the meantime the fire had largely extinguished itself.  Why the hotel didn't burn up is a mystery, although the owner has a theory involving a certain ghost who watches over the place.

Usually when a buddy tells you he has been to, or is on his way to beaver city, high fives would be in order.  However, there may be another explanation -

I remember when Spring Valley wasn't blighted by these blasted things.

A roadmap for saboteurs is on the fence.  Weird.

I stopped here near Baker, NV for a drink of water and took a couple of pics.  The billboard is a "sign of the times."  Aldous Huxley had it figured out.

US93 in Nevada has plenty of abandoned stops along the highway.  Shellbourne Station catches the eye -

Here's what happens when you don't tip housekeeping?

More exteriors -

Take your wisdom where you find it -

I was going to top off, but the card reader wasn't working -

McGill, NV -

Mineral Hot Springs south of Jackpot, NV.  For sale! -

Thanks gents, it being the end of September meant I had the roads mostly to myself out in the boonies.  The exception was US93.  It wasn't busy, but I had to take evasive action 3 times when semis passing other semis  forced me to get on the brakes and get over to the right as far as I could.  The third time I had to stop completely on the shoulder (which wasn't wide) and the sum#$%* went by me still in my lane.  I had similar instances when I drove the pickup through Nevada on the way to California in August.  Do not trust the current crop of commercial vehicle drivers.  Too many of them don't give a damn.

Great ride and pix! :)

Thanks Mark, the nice thing is nothing has changed much when you get away from the population centers.

Thanks as always, Stev-o.  Of course modesty compels me to say all I have to do is point the phone, the scenery does the rest. ;)

I remember Terry suggested it a while back, but I never followed through on it.  The most recent SOHC4 photos will be on the 25 rides thread or Andy's thread.  It's OK with me to use any of those.  I can get you higher resolution versions.
