Free & legal music
« on: December 28, 2009, 05:44:21 AM »
This thread is for free and legal music downloads.

I realised the other day that a couple of Aussie bands that I like have released some songs as free downloads from their websites, so I'm sharing them with you. I'm hoping you have some nice music you can share as well. There are no restrictions on music types: rock, pop, disco/funk, techno/dance, metal, world music, anything goes. But for the sake of the forum they must be legal.

Band: Decoder Ring, Sydney, Australia.
Song: Beat the Twilight
D/L here: www.decoderring.com.au (the link is on the front page in a Flash-type box)
I love this band, have seen them a few times, and saw them again at the Homebake festival (all local Australian bands) in Sydney a few weeks ago. 'Post-rock' genre: basically all instrumentals, nice melodys, can be quite mesmerising live.

Band: 'Eddy Current Suppression Ring', Melbourne, Australia
Song: 'Demon's Demands', a song that they wrote for the Construcing Fear documentary (www.constructingfear.com.au).
D/L here: http://www.movedigital.com/go/constructingfear/89195/01-Demons-Demand-Full-Length.mp3
Nice rock and roll, the lyrics get me worked up a little bit (you'll see). I could have seen them at Homebake, but missed them for another singer (Sarah Blasko). I wish I went, I heard they rock live!

Here are some websites I have found that make available legal songs from a variety of artists. If you have other sites like this I will try to add to this post and keep it up-to-date.
www.rcrdlbl.com (very cool, lots of new and established bands and DJs)
www.daytrotter.com (bands recorded in the Daytrotter studio, i.e. 'Daytrotter Sessions')
www.playboy.com/magazine/music-reviews (now you have an excuse other than saying you were reading the articles  ::) )
http://team-love.com/home/media/ (these guys seem to restrict some bands based on your location/country)

Cheers,

Been hearing this on the radio lately, did a search and found out it's for free - yes!

Artist: Caribou (Canadian)
Song: Odessa
D/L here: http://www.rcrdlbl.com/artists/Caribou/track/Odessa
Website: http://www.caribou.fm/

The electronica and soft vocal reminds me of Royksopp's album "The Understanding", which is probably why I like this track so much.
