I saw a 74 CB 750 sitting in the snow, on the 26th, no tank, no seat, no guages.. sorta felt sorry at first, but then I remembered it was mine.. and I got nowhere to put it...

The one I am riding sits out partially covered with a roof overhang, but it still gets wet.. my 836 was out there for a few years too.. then one day I fired it up  and rode it to Bonneville, then I blew it up shortly after and it sat out there till this summer... just the way it goes sometimes.. I more than got my use out of it...

I'd blow up at you if you left me out for a few years, as well!
These Hondas have feelings too, ya know.

Why is that worse than leaving a bike out in the rain?
That's not an option either in my mind. Put a cover on it no matter what the climate. Respect the machine....please.

I can't work on my bikes right now because of a room problem, My buddies tell to push them outside and cover them with a tarp or what ever. If I did that and then bring them back in just the temp change would cause condensation to the point they drip all over the floor and every one of the bikes rust up! I guess I 'am getting old maybe but I 'am getting tired of re cleaning every nut and bolt after doing it the first time. With the purchases I just have done the po's have given me enough to do so myself am going to rent or buy another garage to store 7 more bikes! I JUST HATE RUST.   HEAD

My bike sits outside out of necessity, but I have it covered with a tarp.  We were out of town over the weekend and the tarp got blown off of it somehow.  I came back to a light layer of snow on my bike. :(

There's a Kawasaki that sits on the street all the time a block or two away from me.  Probably late 70s or early 80s model I'm guessing.  It looks great, but I notice that it sits out there all year.  I assume it gets ridden often.

:-\ :-\ I'd hate to tell you all how often I ride my bikes in the rain, this being PDX and all. As far as I can tell, they handle it just fine. To be fair, I do tend to keep them in a garage now (don't trust neighbors), I do all the regular maintenance myself and I try to remember to wipe them off when they get dirty. Does that count?  :D :D
I'm not done with the '69 Honda yet but I have a feeling it won't instantly melt in the rain either.  ;D I understand about doing what you can to hold back the rust, especially on something you've put so much time and money into. I happen to live in rain. I've gotten past worrying about every little rain drop and snow flake that hits it. Overall, the 4 bikes and I are much happier now. We understand that all of us will all end up with some rust eventually.  ;D

There is a big difference between letting your bike get rained or snowed on and letting it sit there and rot.

Mine sits under what was supposed to be a garage but the PO of the house didn't finish it. It along with my collector car both stay covered up and out of the weather. I hope to have a garage this coming summer.

Like the painter said:
'Do You really think it gets wetter in the Rain, than when you wash it ?? "

Be careful covering it, had mine covered with plastic, and my nicely polished top head fin, got corroded, looked like crap after that..

I "wash" with Honda Polish.  Never water.
So yeah, it does get wetter in the rain and snow.

What painter are you referring to??

You ARE in Beaverton MickeyX.  I'd trust my neighbors here in N. Portland before I'd trust your neighbors out there! ::)

Yeah, our neighbors backed over my suzuki and knocked it over onto it's right side and never said a word, stole kit's bike cover,.... we got tired of worrying so I now we pay extra for a garage at our apartment complex. Of course, since we got that, we doubled the # of bikes we have too. ;D Even at the hospital I work at, people were messing with my bike so now I pay extra to have a pass to park it in one of the parking garages there. It's at least less likely to get attention from the wrong people.

People suck.

Yup, those are the same people who let their bike sit out and rot. #$%*s.

I've even had a guy move my HD up on the sidewalk so he could park in my spot. I'm lucky he didn't break something or get me ticketed.

That's when I nonchalantly walk by the car and key it all the way down the side, and use one of my parking tickets from http://www.youparklikean#$%*.com/

here people have teeth they do not want to take to the dentist for repair and  or replacement .  bad behavior should not be tolerated.  folks do not sit on bikes that belong to others nor do they sit on the hood of my z3.

I've heard of parents sitting their kids on a motorcycle that's parked, not asking anyone, just doing it.  I don't know how I would react if I saw someone do that to my bike.  I like kids.......but don't put yours on my bike >:(

that's like someone having a sportscar with the door unlocked and people sitting their kids into the drivers seat to take pictures.

nobody does that, so why would they sit on a bike....

This was left on its side (it's left side) outside in upstate NY for about a decade.

The rear wheel is locked up by the brake, but the motor was still in oil, no water evident, and it spins freely!

By the way, a large gas grill cover fits these bikes quite nicely!  Velcro cinch straps too.  Had to do that before I moved to the new place with a nice 2.5 car garage.
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

When I got my 550 it was stored outside. I had been riding it around for about 6 months and never saw the cracked frame from the inside out.  Good thing I pulled the motor. This is why you shouldn't leave your bikes out in the rain and then the cold.

I do not like rust, But I have and do ride in the rain and such. When I wash my bike, bikes I'll ride them or take a leaf blower to them to dry them. Moisture sitting on them or in is the problem! But I do not ride through floods any more, way too much work, I'm the type that will pull wheel bearings out and clean and re grease them up.       Head   PS When or where I park my ride of the day if some one is messing with it they are most likely up to no good and might have an accident, not that I would do any thing????    If you see cute bear cubs in the forest DO NOT pull on their ears!
