Yet another argument thread

We had the thread about the airplane on a conveyor, and more recently, the blowers and vacuum cleaners in space, now here's another.

What if...you have a very long tube and stand it vertically into outer space.  Would you be able to suck the air off the face of the earth into space?  We all know about the updraft created in a chimney and elevator shafts...why not?

The updraft in a chimney is due to the air being heated.  In the case of your space chimney, the air temperature would fall below freezing causing it to descend.  You might actually get snow as the water vapor freezes.

You need the Venturi effect... which means, you need a LOT of solar wind.
