I wonder why the vacuum of space can't be "pushed"

the blades spin but they wont be creating ANY wind?

no "air" in space(in concentrated enough volumes) to compress and propel you....

It might work if you added a Bussard Ram Jet Magnetic Field to the intake and add an igniter in the chamber.

I was thinking along the lines of a solar powered way to move you around in space. even if its slow.

I like IC's question threads... but, I always wonder if it because he has a quest for knowledge or if he's just very clever.

Because space is not 100% empty they would produce an itsy bitsy teenie weenie amount of thrust.

I'm talking small, really small, smaller then could be effectively measured.

Here in the vicinity of the Earth the thrust from sunlight and the solar wind would be greater.

Unless you can get the Bussard collector running, but then warp drive is close so why not just use the blowers to cool your field generators.

Mark touched on this, but at least for now, using a solar sail is the only way to use sunlight to power a space vehicle, and last I heard it would take a sail about the size of Texas to propel a small capsule at a decent speed.

That would be pretty kick-ass though!

Wouldn't the motors rev up past their "purpose built" specs and burn out very quickly with no resistance on them?
