Topic: exhaust compatibility for CB750K 1976

Hello all,

Back here after awhile, glad to see the site's still running strong!

I have a CB750K, 4 into 4 HM341 exhaust on it. When I bought the bike a year ago, I noticed that the bike was REALLY loud. In fact, much too loud as compared to other CB750Ks I see and hear running. I heard that there are supposed to be baffles in there, some sort of glass packing ones (or I meay have heard wrong?). I know that in order to repair this, I may have to buy a whole new system which might be worth a whole lot of money, somewhere around 700 - 800$.

Now, my questions:

(1) If I'm right about the baffles, can they be bought aftermarket? Somewhere on the net?

(2) I have a friend who has a CB500 1975. He's willing to sell the bike for parts. I'm interested in it because I think a lot of parts could fit on my CB750K. Is there a lot of parts compatibility between these bikes (CB500 and CB750K) ? If yes, will the 4 into 4 of the CB500 fit on the CB750K? What should I check for in order to verify all this?

I don't know what is inside the cone on a 341, but what looks like a baffle end on the back is not removeable at least on the one I saw. It looks as though there is a bolt on the inner side you can unscrew, but in reality, it is welded.

Thanks for your answer. Now, about the possibility of some "fit" between the parts on the CB500... is the same exhaust system as the one on a CB750K?

Not very much in common between the 500 and the 750. Some ignition and electrical stuff, some front brake part parts and maybe some other little stuff like levers and mirrors. But definitely NOT exhaust.

Hi All,

I think I made a mistake in my original posting: it should read CB550, not CB500.

So, I'll ask the question again: is there a compatibility in parts between a CB550K 1975 and a CB750K 1976? The exhaust system on the CB550K seems to be the same 4 into 4 that is used on the CB750K, judging from pictures I have. But will it fit?

Paul,
The answer remains the same.
Pipes will interchange between the 500 and 550,  but not the 750!
