...anybody got a "Cherry Bomb"???
« on: December 31, 2005, 03:38:56 PM »
...check out the new pipes...got them off another 77 SS I aquired a few weeks back.  I really like the sound of this pipe.  I was poking around on ebay and found a pipe simular to this and the seller claimed it was a "glass pack".  I don't know alot about exhaust, but I've heard of glass pack exhausts for automobiles, but never a bike.  Can anyone confirm that this pipe is in fact a glass pack?

As I recall, back when I put Chery Bomb's on my "65 Chevelle, C.B.'s were considered glass packs.  To me, it looks like somebody stuck one on a motorcycle header.

That is a glass pack, cherry bomb is the most common brand, maybe the only brand come to think of it.  In the past there was a brand called purple horneys ;D

I wonder if you are referring to a picture I posted as a joke; a 1974 CB550 with a Cherry Bomb attached?

I still have the Cherry BOmb if someone wants it for shipping cost, email me. It didn't fit my car.

They sell them at Checker Auto for about ten bucks.  A friend of mine put one on a modern Enfield--didn't sound too bad.

Back in the day the only glass pack to have was a "Smitty".

yep, cherry bombs are a brand of  glass packs. i have em on my car. yours is just a car one stuck on a header like was already stated.

purple hornies are still made by flowtech. they also have another line called red hots. theyare louvered core which is somewhat less desireable as opposed to perforated core. smithys and thrush also still make glass packs.

What's your header diameter, I'd like to see if that would fit a bike of mine.

Yes it's an automotive muffler....I always reversed them so the louvers didn't scoop up the exhaust.  Great tone.
Ultra cool look on your bike!!!!
I'll have to post a pic of the Mooneyes foot accellerater pedal I fab'd onto my brake pedal.

I had nasty rusted out glasspacks on my 550 when I bought it.  Damn that bike sounded mean.  Now I have a 4-1 and it sounds good, but I thought it was too quiet at first.  If I could, I would go back to the dual glasspack sound,  more fitting for a cafe racer too, prolly.

I am looking for a good 4 into 1 for my cb550 because the one I have currently sounds, like, sissy bike. Hardly can hear it.
I want something that says, "I have arrived!"
what do you all suggest?
PS. I still have the 4 into 4's but don't like the sound, too quiet.

The purple horneys have been around 4ever. I remember it was the thing to do in highschool to take
whatever car you had , performance or not , and hack off the stock muffler and put a purple horney on it.

Never thought of running them on a CB. Prob. would sound pretty wicked. Once my stock 4 into 2 rots away , I might
try a pair...
