The Jammer is not integral to the bike, you can remove it easy enough.  The trick will be getting your headlight, turn signals and the electrical connections that should be in the headlight bucket back in order.  A lot of folks here have performed Jammerectomies.  I'm hoping someone can give you better details.
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

see the best part of that bike is you don't have to know it all with all the expertise floating around this site and guys that know the in's and out's of these bikes like hondaman, twotired, oldschool, mark rieck you just can't go wrong. However if you choose to go in a totally different dierection than stock there is also alot of smart talent on here that can talk you through most...good luck with your new project

My windjammer  had the lights that where not built into it, so removing it and putting the lights on was easy. You will have to find front lights. I found an orignal headlight on ebay. Damn windjammer was ugly and huge.

You rapidly learn to stop bad mouthing the Windjammer when you ride in 40-50F weather (particularly if you have the lowers added).  Further, unless you are a young, invincible, whippersnapper  ;D , you'll find that after a long day's ride, you still have energy to do something other than flop onto a couch or into bed.  Then you won't give a fork how it looks, as it is supremely functional.

I thought I'd really get worse gas mileage when I put the jammer on my 550 back in the 80's (riding to work at 5 AM).  I believe it actually improved, and instead of wind on my chest/face trying to push me off the bike, I had wind at my back pushing me forward and most of the buffet behind trucks and cars was greatly reduced if not eliminated.

There was a good reason why many of the Vetters had stereos w/speakers installed in them, as you could hear them pretty well in the quiet behind the shield, and it was legal.

However, if you are a rugged masochist, the vetters can be removed and the bike restored to stock configuration where all the wind punishes you at anything above 40 MPH.  You sit on these bikes rather than in them, placing all the airflow right against the body.

You will have to look and see if you have the headlight bucket and headlight mount/upper fork covers still on the bike under the fairing.  If not, you can find parts to put it back to stock on ebay if not elsewhere.  I've put them on and taken them off.  It not that difficult.  Takes a little time, though.

Cheers,

i guess im afraid of getting hooked on this thing.can i do something about the wind jammer thingy up front? it is so ugly!!!!!i mean so damn ugly i would have to wear a bag over my helmet to ride this thing like this!!!see i did this on my vintage jet ski! bought it for $300,but $700 in upgrades...ect! will this become a sickness??

Yes it will. You might buy a second bike to tool around on when you finish this one!

That fairing is no big deal, I had to chop the one off my bike when I got it. (it was attached with homemade mounts, welded in random spots, and hose clamps) Bolt cutters and a die grinder helped me out. I'm sure yours is not attached like the one I had though, thank god. If you don't break anything on it, you might be able to get a few bucks for it on craigslist too
