New here, thought I'd share my SOHC love
« on: January 01, 2010, 07:49:44 AM »
Hello everyone, thought I'd introduce myself after lurking around here and using all of your posts for the past two years to help me fix and fix up my first motorcycle, a 1975 Honda CB750k5. When I bought the bike I had no prior knowledge of motorcycles or how they worked. I was into cars for a bit, I'm guilty of having a 92 honda civic with a few mods, but now have a passion for motorcycles. I promptly picked up a clymers manual and a motorcycle repair and maintainence book and got to work on restoring my tired bike. This is what I came up with for my first year to ride, mostly road worthy...

This was after the bike falling over due to a failed ratchet strap putting a huge dent in the tank :( Then while replacing the air filter, oil, oil filter, spark plugs and battery, a spark plug snapped off in the No. 4 cylinder head. Needed to put in a helicoil and pull the top end apart. So all new gaskets and a forced learning experience of how to disassemble my bike before I even put a mile on it. Got her all back together though, and sure enough she started first kick! After that, I went on my maiden voyage with only a few problems popping up here and there. Nothing I couldnt fix on the side of the road. Ran like a top though. Now I'm trying to get the body work sorted out, I've tried a few seat options, made a few of my own, tried a skateboard (current) but will probably settle on buying a Fiberglass seat. From here on out its all just upgrades. Ignition, suspension, brakes, carbs, everything a cafe should have. Share your thoughts and comments please. I'm always looking for some constructive critiscism. :)

Nice looking 750.  I really like the red and white paint scheme on the tank and seat.  So you're sticking with the bump seat shown here?  Where did you get it?

Nice work on the bike.  Looks great!
Skateboard doesn't look so bad.   ;D

If I may... you can post image links easily from photobucket.  Hover over a picture (don't click) in your album view and a pop out menu will emerge.  Then click the image code to highlight it, copy the code by right clicking over the highlighted part or by pressing control and c at the same time.  From there, just paste it into your thread posts.  Easy as pie.

For example, it will look like this... all it is is the direct link with img brackets on either end.
(click to quote me to see what the actual code looks like.)

Welcome , george
Found this bike in completely stock condition in Feb. 08. Paid over twice what my new one cost 30 years ago. Am trying to re-create the look of the late 70's Drag Bike styling.More later. 4-2-10 It ain't stock any more and I have no idea what I am trying to create !

Hope I got it,

Thank you for the compliments. I picked the bike up in derry NH for 600 dollars. It was posted at 500$ but the owner had gotten so much interest he raised the price. Thank goodness good ol' G dubbya gave me 600 for a stimulous. Got the title and the keys and trailered home my first bike. :) I'd like to buy one of Carpys seats, fairly inexpensive and the other things ive bought from him have been quality so far. I made all the seats shown in the pics, and its just too much trouble to do it again and get it right. Trying to find an old CB160 to fix up and try out racing this summer. Cant help but enjoy tinkering with these old bikes.
