What oil do you use in your race bikes?
« on: January 01, 2010, 06:30:37 PM »
I just use Castrol 10w-40 and change it after every race meeting.  What do the rest of you use?

I just use cheap old Canadian Tire 20-50 or 10-40 in combo.  I change it and filter every 2 races which is usually less than one hour total.  It's a stock motor and I don't stress it above its redline.

I use the stuff in the blue bottle. If the motor lasts the whole race I change the oil.

When equipped with the dry clutch I intend to go full synthetic Motul.

I have had good luck with Pennzoil, but  I usually ran straight weight, harder to get now.

I never rev really high or run reall hard till it gets warmed up.

ryder 60, I cant wait to see your cam chain rollers & slider if you are running CT Gold... :o

I just use Castrol 10w-40 and change it after every race meeting.  What do the rest of you use?

Back in the day I use to use Castrol for drag racing and I never had problems with it. We used a little heavier 20w-50 for drag racing.

Just the regular ol' Castrol designed for car motors? Or do they have a moto-specific blend? My newly aquired cb550 needs to be treated to what works best  ;).

Anyone here run the Rotella T (syn or non-syn?) I run the syn (blue bottle) in my 03 Z1000 (36k) and it works awesome.....and I run that bike pretty hard.

Hello Sam

Mike is coming along with the head. We did locate some replacement cylinders to go with the pistons we have. For now just waiting on a gasket kit to arrive and some other small bits and then it can go back together.

The past few years running the Repsol full synthetic may have helped keep me racing. I think the oil did its job well. My motor failures look to be a case of way to aggressive downshifting and flat out over revving.

I think I will keep a better eye on the tachometer this year and save some money on motor rebuilds. I don't think any brand of oil would have kept that little motor together after what I put it through. More corner speed and less revving this year for me.

When I was dragracing the turbo, I used the Kendal 20-50 - back when it was the formulation I believe is now cooked up by Brad Penn. The price was right and it worked well for me.
I would change it when shifting became sticky. Yes even with an air shifter you can tell a difference.
I continued to run this oil even while I worked on a racecar that was sponsored by a synthetic oil manufacturer, but today would be a different story.

Is there a clutch slipping problem with synthetic or automotive oils?
