Hot Rodders
« on: January 02, 2010, 08:15:34 AM »
Hey All,
I have heard of people putting in 9" in all sorts of vehicle's. I have a chance to pick up a 68 TBird 9" stripped but the housing is there.
Might it be worth getting?
What are the sought after 9" rears?

many factors:
what are you gonna put it in?
what are your expectations for the vehicle?
what is the axle bearing diameter?
 leaf or coil springs?
or will you do a 4 link/ladder and coil-over set up?
 what are the flange-to-flange measurements?
will you have to narrow (or lengthen ) the housing?

if you have no plans immediately for it, and you can get it REALLY REALLY cheap, buy it and sell it off at a swap meet.

I believe a 68 Tbird housing should be a "large" bearing, 4link, coil spring housing

Yes it should be the big bearing 52 3/4" and before certain years the 9" can be shortened. from what I have been reading.
No plans just a hoarder. and don't like seeing things like good old parts get crushed.
I have a welder and grinder so it could fit in most things. LOL
it is just the housing the center is gone and are the brake parts which im sure are hard to find.
I'm going after Jeep J20 stuff today.
If just the housing then I can get for pretty cheap.
