Machine Shop? Cycle Exchange? Toledo Area?
« on: January 02, 2010, 01:11:44 PM »
Who do you guys use for a machine shop? Local sport bike shop? The old timer at the Harley shop? Got a trusted auto guy that will do it?

Has anyone used Cycle Exchange? How do their rates run compared to a local shop?

I need/want a valve job, cylinder honing (hopefully not bored), crank/ bearing work, pistons evaluated/rings fit. The whole nine. Do people get the surfaces "decked" on these? Are there other issues I should look for?

I'm not really looking to hot rod it just make it tight and right. I'd like local (toledo), but if there are trusted shops worth shipping to I'd like any input.

For the record its a F1 with "alot" of miles.

I have no experience with anyone regarding machine work. The few that I know of that do that sort of work to our bikes are http://www.cyclexchange.net/ and http://cbrzone.com/. For head work member Mike Rieck is "the man" I hear.
No matter how fast or how far I rode, I couldn't leave her memory behind.

MReik is the shiznit I have been told by many.

That being said, I've had an automotive shop once hone out my cylinders due to lack of proper tooling. 1.2mm out mind you, the bill was ugly to say the least.

I would suggest asking the older bikers you see on older well rode bikes who has done work for them.
Look into local bike clubs.
It may take time to get a REALLY good deal, or find an old geezer who takes a shine to you or your project and will help you out cheap/for trade/ or free(beers are a social lube I have found almost universally accepted by old bikers)

Being a machinist there is little I will not do to MY bike.
However for others I seem to be a bit picky, simply due to the facts I have little free time, and charge little or nothing most times.
It normally takes something unusual to get my interest enough to do something for a member here.

Good luck though!!

Well tell him I'm lookin' for him. :)

I saw there is another Toledo cafe rider on the board, I was hoping he'd have some insight.
