probably not 'shrooms then. They seem to be happy and blissed and taking off their clothes and trying to dance with the nurses...

Check your advancer springs for wear Kit, if  they feel or look lose they probably your cause or erratic behaviour.
You can if you are careful close them up again with long nose pliers, when they streach they affect the acceleration patterns on twins (don't ask...Jaffa's 400 same problem).
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

with 5k miles on the bike, the issues probably have more to do with dirt, rust and age more than wear, but that's on my list, too.

I've been really thinking about the symptoms and I think I'd first check the carb's running jet because the issue happens more at higher revs. I'll try to get the sync closer on the carbs, but it sounds like they open/shut at the same time right now.

If that seems ok, then my next step will be to test resistance on the spark plug caps (less than 5000 ohms resistance?) and maybe nip a half inch-ish off the spark plug wires to get some fresh copper on there.

Then I'll have to start thinking about  the points/condensers.  They're $15 each (left and right) from Honda.  Jim (D&S) said he'd cleaned them up and they look good... but he didn't run any electrical testing and until I do some heavier reading on them and learn a thing or two, I don't even know what to think about them.  The timing is supposed to be right, though.

There had been a wire grounding out at the points before, according to Jim.  I don't know if this is still the case.

It runs great on the right cylinder.
The left adds a heckova kick in the rear when it fires, but seems only intermittent at speed...

There seems to be a lot of this kind of stuff on this forum and the other, with people blaming everything from points to coils, but the carb comes first.

I also want to point out that mon-wed I basically get up, go to school, get home, change into work uniform, work, get home, do homework, go to bed... no time for anything outside of school, work, and homework, so the next I'll be able to do any real bike work is Thurs afternoon... but I will be reading on stuff.

If you suspect the points at any stage Kit, just remove the points cover and "short out" one set by earthing them, if the bikes till runs OK on the un-shorted side then try shorting out the other side.
Points are pretty reliable as metal goes but if they get fitted wrong or pick up some crud between the points they can drive you nuts.
Twins are fun cos you can play all sorts of games with them like this. ;)

kit- i'll talk to you about it when i see you in a few hours, but carb syncing is a little more complicated than you're describing it. it's still really simple, but syncing the cables (which is what it sounds like you're talking about) is the last thing you do.

ohhhhh... hmm.

Thanks for the run-down, Paul. I really like the new digs- DTMW is freakin' #$%*in. :D

uhm... I would kinda like to know if the front brake is really as good as it gets and I need people to txt me from up ahead when I'll need to stop, or if I can tighten 'em up a little further.   :)

Doubt the CL would take a disc even a single, perhaps the CB360 which is single disc might fit.
Double leading shoe brakes never were much good, I'm still amazed that I survived all those years on my T350! ;)

Today has sorta been teh suck, but for every sucky thing that's happened, Paulages had an answer, so it's not all bad.

The seat that came in is beautiful.  Unfortunately, in Taiwan, apparently their goddamn CL seats are the same as their CB seats.  Here in the States, though, my cafe seat underwent some shrinkage and doesn't come close to touching the tank like it should.  The bracketing is wrong, too, and it won't even bolt up right.
>:( For $200 I would have expected a little better. That's what I get for not going local, I guess.

Paul said there was a cb tank sitting around that was in good shape on the inside, with just a good ding/dent on the side.  It was pretty affordable (no, I won't tell), so it'll get the same masking job the CL tank got, and if I'm visualizing it right, might look even better than the CL tank does... oh and the damn seat will work.  This is how I hope the CB tank turns out... (photoshopped guess...)

on this bike:

heres a really bad mockup just because I don't have a CB tank of the same type at the same angle... but think of the lines on the CB tank and the 350 on the side...

The DMV laughed in my face when I came in without a title.  They said I could get a 21 day trip tag, which will allow me to at least ride the little bastard around and get the feel for it.
The question was- do I go to the PO who didn't (and may never) have the title, or the PPO, who was the original owner as well?  Well, the PO is in another state, too yet.
SO.
While I was dicking around with the seats, I opened up the doc compartment and (!) the old registration from 1989 was still there.  Paul and I conferred on this and I'm going to head to the DMV again with that registration in hand, so they can contact the PO and get the titling service rolling.

so yeah. victories and defeats.  Lola pissed all over Paul's lift overnight, and that's pretty much my day.

So Paul asked me, when I brought the bike in, "are the valves, points and timing set?"
I said "Yes, they were done at D&S"
I am REAL #$%*in' glad D&S only charged an hour of labor (or did they do it free and take a couple hours to change the tires?) for the damn valves, points and timing because they were all way WAY WAY off.   >:(

If you haven't noticed, this is not necessarily a glowing endorsement for D&S.  It also makes me strongly suspect the quality of my ft. brake drum and realize that odds are real good they didn't set anything at all. WTF is up with that?!

I guess on the positive side of things, my jets weren't totally awful, so I didn't do a terrible job cleaning them.

you seem to have done a better job so far than D&S.  ;) the point gaps were set at .025".  :o i didn't even bother checking the timing before correcting the gaps, but even if the left side was timed right, there's no way the right side was timed right with the gaps that big.

still troubleshooting.
In other news, have a CB350G tank painted, so when either Paul or I can get around to making a bracket for the cafe seat, that ought to work fine... sure looks sweet, anyway.

Got my hondaman ignition in the mail, going to try a new condenser and see if that does the trick.  have my '69 model tail light (smaller and just generally better looking) and some cb350g seat trim for the cafe seat, since I've been looking at the lines and think that'd look pretty sweet.  Also have new, smaller ID fuel line to cram on so hopefully that'll do the trick and keep the bugger from pissing all over Paul's lift, too.  suspecting a cracked standpipe in one o' those float bowls...

I think that's it for now, I'm headed over to the shop in a minute here.

In legal news, I went to the DMV and asked what kind of hoops I need to jump through to get the bike titled in my name... fortunately I still had the old registration from 1989, so they gave me the names and addresses of the folks who jointly owned it, and from there I was on my own.  It took a few phone calls (and in a few instances my damn phone wasn't accepting incoming calls...) but I got ahold of them and sent them copies of my BOS from the PO, (with COPY written across it) and the official DMV forms so they don't think I'm trying to pull anything on them.
We sent it certified, so I know they got it at around 6 am this morning... let's see when I get all that back. ::) no class Tuesday morning, so that's when I think I'll be able to run to the DMV for plates, if they put my stuff right back in the mail. *fingers crossed*
