still troubleshooting.
In other news, have a CB350G tank painted, so when either Paul or I can get around to making a bracket for the cafe seat, that ought to work fine... sure looks sweet, anyway.

Got my hondaman ignition in the mail, going to try a new condenser and see if that does the trick.  have my '69 model tail light (smaller and just generally better looking) and some cb350g seat trim for the cafe seat, since I've been looking at the lines and think that'd look pretty sweet.  Also have new, smaller ID fuel line to cram on so hopefully that'll do the trick and keep the bugger from pissing all over Paul's lift, too.  suspecting a cracked standpipe in one o' those float bowls...

I think that's it for now, I'm headed over to the shop in a minute here.

In legal news, I went to the DMV and asked what kind of hoops I need to jump through to get the bike titled in my name... fortunately I still had the old registration from 1989, so they gave me the names and addresses of the folks who jointly owned it, and from there I was on my own.  It took a few phone calls (and in a few instances my damn phone wasn't accepting incoming calls...) but I got ahold of them and sent them copies of my BOS from the PO, (with COPY written across it) and the official DMV forms so they don't think I'm trying to pull anything on them.
We sent it certified, so I know they got it at around 6 am this morning... let's see when I get all that back. ::) no class Tuesday morning, so that's when I think I'll be able to run to the DMV for plates, if they put my stuff right back in the mail. *fingers crossed*

i forgot to tell you aryn- you do have a cracked standpipe. i didn't have any fuel line small enough to put over it, but might have a spare bowl lying around. i'll talk to you about it in a few.

I think HondaMan says to disconnect the condenser anyway.
At least the instructions I got recommend it.....

We can solder it, and I think I have some shrink tubing back in my space, Paul.
No.

shrink tubed the standpipe, replaced the condenser... problem still exists. Kind of frustrated, but life goes on... just exceedingly happy this is the 'project' bike, not the 'daily commuter' bike.  Soon I expect they'll switch places because I want to tinker with Delilah's carbs... but this is how it is right now.

I guess the next step is to swap the left carb and see if that does it... then I have to try and buy a carb from somewhere. :-\

TBP, I think the directions say that you may need to replace an old condenser if the idle goes up with the HMI, but not that you remove it altogether.  it's not needed for the ignition, but you can (and maybe should) keep it in place in case the HMI fails so you can disconnect the ignition and go right back to using the points again.

the condensors can be left connected or not. theyre not functioning at all with the hondaman ignition.

sorry kit- haven't had a spare few minutes to try a known good carb on there. i'll try to get to it in the next few days. the bike is looking great, by the way. oh, and the heat shrink on the stand pipe didn't work... i came in to a really stinky shop a couple days later. gotta find appropriate sized fuel line. baxter's will have it.

We got Lola home today under her own power!!!  8) Purrrrrrrrrrrrs.  ;D ;D

Paul set up the bike beautiful and figured out that ultrasonic cleaning the carbs 4 times was the charm, among other things.

I had to put Kit's original brake light back on so I had a working one. I have to run an extension from the green ground to the new light. The new one only has 2 wires coming out, no where to attach the ground. Of course, I put in the old light and it wouldn't light either. I took it apart and found a burnt bulb. I cannabalized the new setup for the meantime.  ::)

We also don't have a working front brake switch. Hers was mildly coozed. I tried to fix it back when we changed over to the M bars, but apparently no go. Ahhh, you never know what you're going to find next, do you?  ;D

One thing that literally had me shook was... the wheels are really out of true or weren't balanced correctly. I hit 25mph and almost had a tank slapper going on. At 30-35, the whole bike was shaking up and down, left and right. I could look down and see the tire wiggling back and forth but I couldn't take enough time to see if the rim was doing it or not. Kit could see the rear was muffed too. (she was following behind in the car keeping cagers off my rear end) D&S cycle in Aloha just slapped a bunch of weights on the front (30oz) along with the original one. I didn't look closely at the rear yet to see how much is back there. That alone should have given them a clue about them needing trued or something. #$%*s. Won't be going to them for anything ever again.  >:( When it was all said and done, they screwed up the tuning and the tires.

Check that the tire is actually in the bead Mickey, you can let the tire down and reinflate it to see if it will pop back in correctly, damn that shop, if you had a spill you could sue them.

Ya know, I've been needing an excuse to buy an air compressor. Now I have one. Thanks, Hush.  :D

I'm gonna call that shop and have at them on the phone. We found out afterward that cornandp had the same thing happen to him when he had them mount his tires. He almost lost it on his bike and rode it right back over there. We didn't have the opportunity to ride it at speed until now, 1.5 months later. I'm still calling. I'm gonna tell him how underwhelmed I was at their tuning too.  >:(

Bike is looking great! Pity about the poor quality work by the shop though....

That bedliner stuff you used on the tanks...is it applied with rattle cans by any chance? I may need to look into it when i do some more work on the tank on my bike this fall.

We went out this morning, put it up on the center stand and it's definitely the tires. The rims spin straight. I'm calling the shop now to let him have it. We're not dishing out $$ for that guy to do shoddy work and almost kill me.

Yes, it was rattle canned.  :) We've spilled gas on repeatedly now and now ill effects at all. Don't even need to wipe but we do anyway. Good stuff. Looks leathery in a way. Very cool.

New pics to come soon after I remount the tires correctly.  ::)

Jezz Darkrider you haven't been around for a while, good to see you back. :)
Jaffa rattle canned her bike tank and as you say Mickey, even spilling gas on it hasn't effected the paint.

The key to the duplicolor stuff is that you spray a couple test-blasts away from your intended target for the first time (because a bunch of solvent stuff comes out at first) and stop using the can for anything important once it's down to 1/4 can (because after awhile it starts spraying really foamy and chunky and doesn't look very good.)  Other than that, it's really good and really forgiving.

Cool So basically spray a test piece first to clear out the excess solvent and to get a feel for laying it down then try to stop spraying when it starts to clump up?

:P After all that, with finals, college stuff, work stuff and trying to get the little truck I got for winter/bad rain commuting running right, I haven't had any time to work on Lola... I just need to go to Roadhawk (or ebay...) and get another carb float bowl, re-seat the tires and balance them right, but I haven't had the time so it's waiting. :P
