I've had the same problem with my 550 and motion pro cables even though they are listed as stock length.

We had a problem with motion pro cables on our CB650. The length was wrong, they were missing a nut, total crap. We ended up throwing them out and getting Honda cables. I won't buy motion pro again.

all the MP cables I've bought for my '77 750f, two throttle and a choke, have been great. To bad they can't keep it consistent.

The -3 clutch and stock length throttle cables were perfect for the K5 that I got from MP.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

Hey Tipper

Your -3" cables were they for drag bars, clubmans or clip-ons?

I was just about to inquire how much shorter I need for my drag bars.

do you by chance have a part number?

thanks

I have bought stuff for my 750F and all was fine but for some reason the 550 stuff just doesn't fit right. To much free play.

Superbike bars.  On thier site, they only had stock and a -3 clutch cable listed for the K5.  I have no answer for the the bars you  mentioned but should be real close to that, as my guess.

Very timely post. I'm just about ready to order some throttle cables!

By the way. What side of the frame do the accelerator cables run on a 550 K?
On my 1976 550F they run down the right side. I know these are correct
On my 1976 550K they run down the left side.

If it was just the clutch cable, it could be a fairly easy fix with a longer adjustment screw that goes into the lever, from a different bike.
Any way to do something similar with the other cables too?
Just a thought, if motion pro is unwilling in the end.

If you look on their site, they do not offer a stock length cable for the clutch. They only offer 1.5 inch longer or shorter.

Someone wanted the part number for clutch cable with drag bars??? 02-0124 for the 75 550.

I got my 750K with Clubman bars and only the pull throttle cable. My back couldn't take the bars so I put a higher than stock bar on it and went to look for the push cable. The MP cable I got was totally wrong so went to my Honda dealer to do a special order for length. Looking around the showroom and doing some measuring, a new Honda Shadow cable was a perfect fit and $14. I also had to get a clutch cable made as well as the front brake line. They were not as cheap but Honda sent my cables out and had the new ones made to the correct length. it was worth it for me and doesn't kill my back.

I ordered  push cable and a pull cable and a clutch cable from Dennis Kirk and they are all too long. It said on the site they were the exact replacements for my 75 CB550F and they are not. In fact I have the adjustments out all the way and the gas cables work ok but the clutch is no where near where it should be.. I will be watching this thread for ideas....

Something to remember when ordering over seas is that these bikes had different handle bars for different markets so this could cause a problem with lengths.

Its not the length of the cable that is causing the problem. I can use the same cables on clubmans that i use on stock bars. It just takes creative routing. The problem were having with the 550 cables is that the inside cable is to long and you can not take up enough slack with the adjusters. I have a 1/2 inch  of free play in my throttle and i have every thing adjusted all the way out. same with the clutch. They never called me back today but i will be calling them again tomorrow.

I'm pretty sure I ordered a custom one, though I have clubmans.  And you know what?  The clutch end bulb or cylinder part that attaches to the clutch's arm was too big.  Had to grind it down a bit to make it fit.
And one more thing: for what they charge, they should be A+ perfect.

The MotionPro throttle cable for my K0 750 had a too long inner cable relative to the casing and I had to customize it to work. Don't remember what I did but remember wondering "how hard could it be to measure a stock cable and duplicate it?".

Yea that was kinda my thinking.

I called up and talked to them about this. The guy said something like... We make a certain number of cable models. we feel even if it's not the right size, but it will work for the application, we sell it for that application. If we didn't make them, where would you get them, custom cables cost 40 bucks a piece?...I said, well then why do you advertise them as "stock" replacement when they're 1 1/2 inches longer and the inside is too long for a particular application?

The guy got ticked off and said order from a dealer then if you don't like our products.

Funny thing is I did buy their cables from the local dealer.

What are the alternatives to Motion Pro? (as I am in need of a new clutch cable, less than a year old and under 1500 miles and it's already fraying at the lever)

I am with you. From what I can tell its probably best to order from the local Honda shop.. I hope some one comes up with a better place..

I would take them back to the dealer who sold them to you, if Motion pro get it from their distributors it may hit home a little better, also mention to the dealer what their response was as that ia a pretty poor way to deal with a customer and it WILL loose them business..
