IMO genuine Honda parts are best. Just have a close look at a genuine Honda cable and an imitation. Honda's is superior. Just order the right partsnumber. Consult the Parts List. Length varies for different area codes (lower and higher handlebars).

For what it's worth, I sent motion pro a url to this thread and suggest they read it.

Ok i talked with motion pro today and they Tried to get back to me but had the wrong number. My issue has been sent over to the R&D department and they are looking into the throttle cable issue. They said they compared their clutch cable to a stock one and it was a match. So now i need to figure out why the 2 i ordered are fully extended on 2 different 550s. So far motion pro has been pleasant with me and seem to be genuinely looking into this issue.

Does anybody have issues with their clutch also or just throttle? Please vote at this Poll

I wonder of MP has the correct original cable to start with. I compared mine to one off a functioning 550 (both gas, and clutch) and they were longer. Now, I got mine from Dennis Kirk however I received the same reply from them, that "they matched it up to the original cable and it was the same length". I believe they have the wrong one to begin with.. Just my .2 worth..

nevertheless, if that's your business, wouldn't hurt to go to the honda shop and buy an original to work from eh?

neither of our throttle cables were the right length and one (#1 in fiche) was missing the second nut that is unique to it's design from the other, so we couldn't set/tighten it. the push and pull are different  (#1 and #2) and they made them pretty much the same. neither were correct though. we put our 30 yo ones back on and waited a week for Honda ones to come in.

total crap.  :( they don't pay attention to detail, rather they just try to get in the ballpark. that really isn't good enough to make me spend any more $$ with them.

Funny, the guy I talked to said  they did not have stock length. It also show on their website that they only offer 1.5 longer or shorter. http://motionpro.com/motorcycle/search/by_motorcycle/all/1974/Honda/CB550K/Cables/
I too have a problem with the length of the cable, too long for sure!
I am going to go to a local shop that makes custom cables, as long as they're not 50 bucks a piece.

The loop-de-loop in the parts diagram is hilarious to me.   :D
Like the drawing is all to scale and they had to do that to show the proper length, or something.   ;D

We had a problem with motion pro cables on our CB650. The length was wrong, they were missing a nut, total crap. We ended up throwing them out and getting Honda cables. I won't buy motion pro again.

Same here only it was on my CB350 And CB750 for the 750 I just threw them out and got Honda OEM ones ( I hate throwing new stuff out like that, but man were they junk. ) There way more $ but WAY WAY more worth it. Motion pro you need a hand of iron to hold the thottle open, Honda ones smooth as glass! For the 350 we got them because they where gray and the Honda ones where black. Big mistake they were well over 2 inches too long.. we took it back to the dealer and they cut and welded or brazed the cables they fit now but are still total crap, poor quality and not smooth at all.

Ok, Update. I talked to Larry at motion Pro. We talked for a while and i dug through my old cables to compare to the one i had bought. The internal throttle length compared to one of the old ones i had lying around was a 3/4 inch to long. The clutch cable compared to one that came off my 550f was maybe 1/4 inch to long. Problem is that none of these cables i had were OEM. So, i think im going to go buy some OEM cables and compare them the motion Pro cables i have. I would like to say that after getting a hold of the right person at motion Pro they do want to make cables that fit. Stay tuned, and if you have some OEM cables that you could measure the internal cable PM me.

I believe I have a stock clutch cable lying around. I'll check into it.

Even with Clubman's, I routed my old worn out stocker to get a measurement.  The way I routed it, it ended up being stock length was okay!  Same on Clutch!

So....I bought some Motion Pro cables in stock length off eBay.....I have not fit them on yet.  Looks like I need to check the length on them before I lube them up and install.

I know I read somewhere the "crc2 online" will custom length cables you buy from them.

If my cables end up too long....maybe I can sedn them back to MP to shorten them.

This is really a downer! :(
