that looks like a Bosch 009 distributor for an aircooled, type1/2 air cooled VW

Thanks katt, this is exactly the kind of thing I am hoping to document.

if that IS the 009 distributor, do yourself a favor and get a pertronix ignitor kit for that 009. you'll thank yourself. when i put one into a bug the cold start was ALOT better, i was able to get another 1000 rpms up top (i had dual, heavy duty valve springs too) and part throttle drivability was good too. the kit is less than 100 dollars.

I have the same setup. It is not a bosch 009 distributor but a mallory duel point distributor for a vw. A bosch 009 will drop right in, or
a magneto for a vw works also. The aftermarket electronic ignition for the bosch 009 is a great upgrade. One note though, find and older
009 distributor( BOSCH ) , the new ones are chinese junk !!!  ;D

 A R.C. kawasaki setup

 A bosch 009 distributor

Why would you want to put this on your bike, besides the "retro" look?

'retro look' in itself is as good an answer as any.  ;D

I'll second that !  The look of a magneto or a distributor hanging off the side of the engine just looks bad ass !!   ;D

We found out years ago that the single fire does not make anymore power. That was when we quit selling ARDs. They do look cool, but won't make as much power as a Dyna 2000.

Do you think if they were fitted with a modern electronics pick-up that they could match Dyna's?

I am not sold yet on the wasted spark being a better system.

Of course Jay is right, I remember reading this. Also there's parasitic drag from the gears.
But I can assure you that guys, especially other hot rodders, DO notice this stuff...

If the ignitions themselves were equal, the drag on the motor turning the mag/dist puts it on the negative side.

Don't forget the Bosch blue coil too! There is one nearby but I was sure the owner said this one fit the left side of the 750 and also has a drive for an injection fuel pump. Off a 3/4 midget.
