Well what ever you do, you will need to make adapters and hangers if you decide to go BIG
and thats what I like to do
This is a GL1000 front end with RC51 rotors with 6 pot tokeco ??? calipers and titanium hangers

I will never again machine another set of Ti hangers on a manuel mill................

For front brake overkill I like the front end on my 1990 Exup...YZF750 six potters on 13.5" discs:-

What with Aeroquip and Ferodo Supersport pads it makes for fun riding...and good for barrelling into hairpin bends on the Isle of Man TT course... ::)

Remember this all depends on how hard you ride, i am a late braker and like the brakes to carry deep into the apex.this may not be what you want . And yea i have had my fair share of crotch rockets as well but i get a buzz out of riding these old bikes hard when they are set up well and wouldn't ride as hard without the twin discs. The extra disc would obviously add more weight but i don't think the extra centrifugal forces created make much difference, not on the street anyway..

+1 - I'm with Mick on this one. If you ride hard you need to brake hard and the downside of a bit of extra weight is nothing. If your riding is so affected by those few extra pounds and you notice it, you must be riding at the limits and therefore you need a second disc - it's a self fulfillign prophesy you see!  ;D

Converse is also true - if you only need one disc for your riding, you don't need two, simple. And if you want to reduce the overall mass of the bike, best stop sinking those tinnies and going to Taco Bell!

hi, i have a question to all, just picked up a 72 cb550 with a dual disc front end already installed, except it has an older kawi branded m/c.  i have a lead on a brand new un-branded zx14 m/c with lever.  will this work on my set up?  are there any advantages over the GL1000 m/c?

1982 cb750f/cb900f twin piston calipers will mount with the brakets off the twin calipers to the latter sohc duel disk forks....or so im told.....have a set on there way to me from ebay so ill let you know

on another note will any of the factory twin piston rear calipers work on a SOHC F bikes?

I can't say there are any advantages over the GL MC, I think the deal is they will all have a little different feel depending on leverage and hydraulic advantage. The ZX14 MC should work, don't know about things like brake switch, instrument clearance, etc. IT will have a different feel and you may like it better or not. Trial and error.
