Damn, Brian, that's probably the sexiest thing I've seen in the last twenty minutes! :D

I really, really love the way this thing is coming together. :D

well today I snuck back outside and just started whacking the hoop (no spokes or hub) with the 4X4 post.
I mean like -over the head 2 hands- type bashing. and whaddya know? it's a lot straighter... I had a sorta square-ish shape happening to that side of the rim, now it's rounder than ever.
so I figured, since I was out there,  I might as well lace and true the wheel...

**Video complete with Harley bashing rant coming as soon as it's edited and uploaded**

lead hammer works real good for those types of projects.....lots of wheel weights melted with a pipe for a handle makes a fine lead hammer FYI

It does look good..  I have these grips and they might look good on your bike.. If you want them I will pop them in the mail to you no charge.. I am just having a hard time getting the left one off the handle bar however its just a matter of time.. The flash really grays out the black so the grips are actually black not gray...

Thanks for the offer Scott, but I've been holding out for some gran turismo grips, they remind of my first time on a bike, they kinda click when you squeeze 'em, and that feeling is just another reason to get on and ride. So it's gran turismos or nothing :)

the only problem I might have is with the bar end mirror, I had a white set on my old bike and I popped one, but I don't remember how I did it.

ps
I fell asleep editing the video last night.

Boy you  know your tired when you fall asleep at the keyboard.  I will have to look those grips up, I am not familar with those and they sound great!
Fantastic build so far, I know its going slow, but we both know it will be so worth it in the end...

I have a spare, it's just the amount of work pulling the tire off and cramming it back on.

Well, if your using screwdrivers, that sometimes happens.....cheaper and more handy that buying the purpose made spoons.

I have a guy in town that does it at his shop for $10 each.. well worth it for the few times I have to do it. The local dealer will do it for around $20 each so even that is worth it not to have to deal with it. For me anyway..

yeah I was using adjustable wrench handles, (they're smooth-ish) with the rim on the floor, my feet on the tire and my knees on two wrenches, I had the smallest amount left to go and the only thing in reach was a flat head....

went to fill 'er up and it went poooh... sweewoohsshhhh  oh... crap.

Very thin screwdrivers (or rods) + gas, is for getting grips off...

  ...NOT for putting on tires..

Tires are not that bad to put on, once you got the technique down...

IndCAf.. I bet that front wheel will make your idle sound..ummm..STARCHIER..... ;)

The forks look good, did you ever weigh the parts, see how much weight you are saving?

The good thing about changing tires, is you dont have to wait, and donr get stick on the roadside..

Ever take a Gran Turismo grip apart?..weird inside..

thanks, I haven't weighed them individually, but the original front end weighed 210lbs (front wheel on a scale)
I'll use the same scale, weigh the finished product, and post about it.

Really? I never thought about using Gas.. If that works that would be great. I have a stuck grip, well 2 but the one has the throttle sleeve in it so its not a big deal, I would like to get the other one off the bars, so if anyone wants them or the bars I can send them out.

Fork ears are probably out of the question for lock to lock reasons, but maybe a benjie style bracket will do for your headlight? it mounts to the lower tree and a semi-circle of barstock rises fron the mounting points up to the headlightt mounting tabs left and right. the headlight seems to float independantly of the fork tubes. it'll keep your tubes' gold color uncovered all the way up and might also be just what you need to get your clocks where you want them.  -Alan

My friend's sporty uses a hole punched through the lower, and a stem holds the headlight, all clear of the turning radius and the tank interference. Aren't all the newer sporties like that?

I laughed my ass off at the spoke rant. The finish on HD's is pretty poor. Leave a Honda outside for a couple years and it will clean up. Leave an HD outside for a couple years and it's garbage.

+1 they are very good!

If you ever find the time I would really really like to see a video on taking a tire off, inspecting inner tube and putting tire back on (as if you had a puncture out on the road somewhere).

Enjoying the progress,
cheers
Andy

It's funny you say that, I was gonna do one but my camera needed to be charged.
I usually use 3 adjustable wrench handles a taco'd 21 inch rim, and my feet, knees, and hands.

I wonder what you'd use to break the bead on the side of the road?...
