to rayjay or not to rayjay - TURBO on ebay
« on: January 07, 2010, 09:10:32 PM »
Trolling ebay and found tihs - asked the seller a simple question - will it fit on a CB750 SOHC as advertised....simple answer it was too .........

"It can be made to fit any bike- if you know what you are doing- it is not going to just jump on and work though

- j-wcycles"

my question was

"Hi, you have mentioned the turbo for Yamaha - is it for a honda sohc cb750 - as the title suggests - thanks very much
did it come from a cb750 ??"

thought I might be able to use it sometime in the futre -

will not be bidding though as I think it may be substandard for a CB750 fit ???

Might be an opportunity for one of you local guys    :)

It looks a little weathered. They are very finiky about rust and such, especially in the bearings.

Oh, I'm sure you could fit it on somehow... but will it work properly?

It does look like it was rode hard and put away wet, you would probably have to rebuild the sucker before putting it on.

this particular version was manufactured for the Yamaha 650 turbo - as the seller has indicated, it needs much modifications to be suited for the cb750...way too much for me - but the cool factor would also be nice....refurbishing what is there already, and reengineering is not realistic for me..so I will be passing on the item.

good luck to whoever wants it...  :)

Big piece of crap. The cost of rebuilding it would not be worth it IMO . For 750cc to 1300cc  a rajay b flow is the way to go. The only problem is parts available for them, and they are very expensive !   :o

Needs a good clean up and inspection, but be very careful can be very expensive. Have build a Turbo myself from bottom up, very nice if you know how and who to turn to if you don't.

The Yamaha Turbo used Hitachi turbos(maybe mitubishi ?), not Rajay turbos.
The Yamaha had the turbo mounted below the swing arm pivot (the 4-1 header connected to it). It made for a clean looking install, but the SOHC's don't have the room there like the Yamaha does.
Most Vintage turbo systems used the Rajay turbo mounted where behind the cylinders where the carbs were.
It would be less pain full to get a turbo kit specifically for the SOHC, instead of trying to piece one together from many different parts.

A little weathered? Looks like it came from Titanic wreckage.

You know I always thought the idea of e-Bay was to sell stuff. But a lot of the sellers have gotten down right surley and seem to want to get in a pissing match with the buyers. But you know what happens when you piss in the wind.

The sellers get to keep whats being sold
