oil cooler lines I.D. : flow and pressure
« on: January 21, 2010, 03:05:45 pm »
hey guys- i'm fitting a new cooler to the 718cc engine (cb550) and want to make sure i don't create a bottleneck. the cooler is manufactured as an aftermarket part for rs50's and rs 125's,which my shopmate races. these are much smaller bikes obviously, but i assume would need similar pressure and flow through the cooler. the lines that came with the cooler used 10mm banjo bolts, which i thought would provide far too small an orifice for all of my oil to flow through. the cooler coming off had 3/8" I.D. hard copper lines.

the plan is to go with dash 4 lines, which have an internal I.D. of .22". any larger than this will be pointless due to the size of opening at the cooler. what size lines do you guys usually run, and will dash 4 be adequate?

i'd like to go with -6, but like i said the size of the orifice at the cooler is only .25" anyway... do you think -4 is too small?
