The Very early dorje.com days......
« on: January 10, 2010, 04:54:25 AM »
In addition to Alan F (Fleming?) I thought this might be a nice topic to start.

Dorje.com hosted a mailinglist, in the very early days.

What happened to: I will kick off myself:

What happened to: Rene van Maanen

I will try to keep this short..... I enlisted to sohc4.org in about 1995. There were few pages that would inform us about Honda-Four, so I was very happy to find brothers-in-arms. In 1997 I had a terrible accident (of which I have fully recovered). Because of this accident I started thinking of what really important parts of life were. One of them was NOT hitting the trafficjams every day, and getting back home, fully stressed. Eventhough I even changed jobs within HP to Project Manager, of which I beleived then this would improve my life. Well, it didn't.

Then in 2002 an opportunity arrived, HP and Compaq were going to join, an I volunteerd to leave the company, bringing home some cash.
This allowed me to realize my very old dream: starting my own HONDA-Four company. It took me another year to decide, but in November 2003 the company was set up. It's running quiet well.

I have restored some bikes now, and living a happy life. Even my son is driving this nice CB350f.

Of all God's creatures there is only one that cannot be made the slave of the lash. That one is the cat. If man could be crossed with the cat it would improve man, but it would deteriorate the cat.

BK,

Thanks, but no. This is the screw-in type that replaces the CB350-400-500-550 models only.

Rene, have you read "Shop class as soulcraft"? It tells the story of a guy who leaves his work at a think-tank company and start his own business fixing bikes.

Catalog?  Please link me in.  Btw it's actually Fisher (although not spelled that way) and not Fleming.
Cheers Rene on your recovery and to the success of your business.

I'm a Red Foreman fan, I just had to steal your pic from another post.  I'll try not to misuse the power.

Rene brings up something that is on a lot of people's minds. Is it any riskier to tie your future to a Corporation and be miserable and spending time and energy worrying about how every change will imperil you. O r do you find something you like and are good at and put your future in your own hands.
