I should add that the thing that brought Don Laubach to mind today was a box I found when I was cleaning out my shop.  It had never been opened since Don mailed it to me maybe 8 years ago.  I opened the box to find two nice CB550F side covers!

But are they made of wood?  ;)

Thanks for everything you've done here Glenn...you da' man.

All I have is good memories from that time. For me it was a Godsend, having recently bought my K1 in Spain and being that bike rare as hen's teeth over here. Without the forum I don't know how would I have found tech info about the bike, as well as links, tips, etc.

I remember finding Rene's ultimate K2 webpage and browsing it completely, downloading the parts manual that was key for me in order to buy parts I needed to refurbish my bike.

Raul,

The pages are still there, I have considered updating them, but for old times sake I leave them as they are.

These are the first pages that I put on the internet. When I still worked at HP, I was allowed to spent a few hours each week to develope some internet stuff. That was in the days that internet was not common for consumers.

The "Ultimate CB750K2 pages" are from that age.

I know, some links stopped working.

For the curious people:

Looking through my own site (harhar) I came across this picture. It is Joe Allen, also an early member, who did some hill climbing with a CB750. Great! Anyone heard of Joe lately?

Didn't Joe also have a beautiful, yellow 550 with a silver frame?  That was one of my inspirations for my early "cafe period".

I Recall that he had more than one bike. I don't remember however if it was the one you describe.

We once had this Gallery, featured by Carlos Rubinstein.  Is that gallery still available? If yes, Joe's bikes will probably be featured.

I found the Walnut side cover posts:

Jim,
If you look really Really REALLY close, you'll find that your
sidecovers are just papier maché.  Your original sidecovers are in my
warehouse, of course....

Great link, remember most of the names. I also notice the wallnut sidecover threat. Excellent!

That site only seems to go back to 2003.

Oh, and it wasn't Joe Allen I was thinking of.  Joe Allen had that crazy dirt bike with the cb750 engine in it for hillclimbing.

It was Rob Lloyd who had that beautiful yellow CB550 with the silver frame.  Still have the picture on my hard drive:

Heh, here's a related gem from circa 2000:

. great .. now I'm having this disturbing visual of Martha Stewart hosting Moto World ..

<Martha:> "... some cup-cakes for instrumentation .. big stack of s'mores, some twinkies, and a few ho-ho's for the motor .. like a ginger bread house.. it's a good thing .. "

I still have a few thousand of the VJMC emails floating around in a subfolder of my mailbox.

No, the SAlocal forums must have been something that Ed Swearingen.  He used to be on the Greenspun forums; don't know if he is around here anymore.  Do a search on salocal; his site is still around and there are some good tech tips there.

Please give my best to Marion if you see him in DC. I bought his K4 back in 2003 I think. Really nice guy. Same goes for Bruce - I was blocking on his last name.

Bruce and I ran into Marion at the VJMC display at the DC Motorcycle show.  Marion was showing a GB500; says he sold off all of his SOHC/4 bikes.  I gave him your regards and Marion noted that he sold you that K4 for less than it cost him to have the wheels built up.  Is that the same bike you rode through Mexico and on the Easy Rider trip?
